UL, LLC Global Director - HR Operations in Chicago, Illinois

ROLE IS BASED IN NORTHBROOK, IL/GREATER CHICAGOLAND AREA

In this newly created position, you will lead the migration of HR operations work from a decentralized model into this newly formed team. Energized by streamlining how work gets done, while elevating the employee experience, this is a role that can make a meaningful impact every one of UL Solutions 15,000 employees globally.

Reporting to the VP HR, Global People Services, the Global Director - HR Operations leads critical priorities of our HR function and employees through employee-first customer service, operational efficiency, and excellence, and driving strategic processes and projects. This role will help determine the optimal structure, where and how work gets done and how to create memorable moments that matter for some of our key employee processes such as new hire onboarding, benefits administration and leaves.

  • Develop and set up of the Global People Services (HR Operations) team, Analyzing and documenting current and transformed processes to discover potential gaps and propose efficiencies and future process changes. Understands the linkage between HR and business strategy and drives execution on the strategic objectives of the function through harmonized processes, elevated employee experiences and a team culture built around customer-centricity.

  • Provides leadership, strategic guidance and direction to Global People Services team. Must be able to motivate, lead and coach others (both direct and indirect).

  • Drives operational excellence and efficiency by iterating processes based on qualitative and quantitative feedback and insights; leverages and improves existing projects and programs (savvy utilization of existing tech platforms, knowledge base expansion, intuitive employee self-service, etc.).

  • Effectively uses technology (ServiceNow and OracleHR) to drive meaningful change through real time analytics & data monitoring.

  • Ensures “customer first” mentality is applied to handling of inquiries and adherence to processes; monitors customer (employee) satisfaction through regular surveying and monitoring.

  • Builds and maintains strong cross-functional stakeholder relationships for effective daily partnership with HR COE’s, Business Process Owners and colleagues across HR, HRIS, IT, Finance.

  • Manages issue escalation. Provides guidance and handles escalated issues directly, as appropriate.

  • Ensures complex employee, manager or business scenarios are analyzed and effectively communicated to key stakeholders.

  • Works across stakeholder groups to seamlessly manage changes (new processes, vendor swaps, etc.) for employees.

  • Active member of the Global People Services leadership team within HR, providing ideas and counsel to other sub functions and leaders within the team.

  • Manages the performance of direct reports by developing accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.

  • Performs other duties as directed.

  • University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree) in Human Resources or a related discipline.

  • Fifteen years experience in full Employee Lifecycle and/or HR Operations within a complex, global organization.

  • Experience in building and optimizing an HR operations team, preferred but not required.

  • Inspirational leadership that sets a high bar for performance and service-delivery, creating a sense of pride for team members in understanding the critical role they each play within the organization.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, with an openness to refine and change course as needed.

  • A balance between an operational mindset with a flair for the creative in designing and executing on programs and experiences that are globally consistent and compliant, while also being uniquely innovative and driving desired results and outcomes.

  • Proficient in HR Systems.
