The Opportunity

This position works out of our US Lake County, IL location in the Transfusion Medicine Business Unit.

The Global Scientific Affairs Manager at Abbott TM is responsible for economically and efficiently managing, building, and continuously improving the company's scientific presence globally, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and objectives. This role involves providing scientific support to cross-functional colleagues and developing strategies that support business unit execution.

The manager, reporting to the Senior Director of Medical/Scientific/Clinical Affairs, is responsible for coordinating projects to enhance the value and support of MSCA activities within budget and on schedule. Key duties include managing educational and research platforms, executing research studies and engagements, and handling foundational tasks like platform administration, invoicing, contracting, and financial reporting. The role also requires anticipating and resolving issues to ensure high-quality deliverables, with a focus on continuous improvement and value-adding activities to meet the needs of the function, business unit, and customers.

What You’ll Work On

  • Responsible for compliance with, and enforcement of applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and Procedures

  • Acts as liaison between MSCA and Audit teams (internal and external)

  • Develop and implement specific scientific and/or educational strategies with aim to translate these into positive business unit, brand, and global community impact to differentiate from competition. Creates and executes an annual scientific affairs plan with strategic adjustment as necessary.

  • Develop key scientific relationships/presence. Identify and work with key experts in the field to positively influence and impact the Transfusion Medicine landscape

  • Pursue publication of impactful data/results, acceptance of scientific posters and abstracts, and presentations at key professional meetings to enhance the business’s scientific presence

  • Review material for submissions, presentations, and meetings

  • Effectively manage direct reports.

  • Management, coordination, or execution of multiple contract and report types, including but not limited to: Confidential Disclosure Agreements, meeting planning, Amendments, Consulting Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Investigator Initiated Study agreements, Collaborative Research Study agreements, Statements of Work, Licensing Agreements, Sponsorship Agreements

  • Lead and educate cross functional teams involved in developing internal and external educational materials.

  • Work closely with Legal, Procurement, Marketing, Finance, and OEC

  • Timely communication of issues that could impact quality, service, project, or deliverable timelines

  • Ensure proactive and open communication with functional and cross-functional team members

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Science or relevant clinical role

  • 7+ relevant years of experience

  • Solid understanding of the underlying principles of state-of-the-art blood screening technology and specifically the division's products.

  • Strong problem solving techniques and communication skills to effectively communicate and consult in a highly technical environment, as well as coordinating business strategies

  • Effective communication skills for presentations and demonstrated leadership skills essential.

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

  • Experience with QMS, Veeva, and contracting tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or MD

  • 4 - 5 years experience with fluency navigating Abbott compliance, financial, and other procedures

  • Previous management experience (manager, project manager)

  • 2-5 years of clinical or technical experience in product development or support

  • Product management/scientific management

  • Bilingual (Spanish)

The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
