Zurich Resilience Solutions (ZRS) is currently seeking a Head of Extreme Weather and Climate for the US ZRS team. ZRS provides risk consulting services that help companies build resilience and adapt in a dynamic risk landscape. Our focus is on delivering innovative risk management and resilience solutions to our clients, with the mission to help businesses understand, mitigate, and manage risks, ensuring their long-term ambition and success.

As the Head of Extreme Weather and Climate for Zurich Resilience Solutions, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our US strategy, go-to-market initiatives, business development, and new solutions to scale our climate resilience and adaptation business across various industries. You will work closely with our clients, internal teams in the US and internationally, and external stakeholders to provide expertise, drive innovation, and ensure that our climate-related initiatives are aligned with our overall business objectives. This role has Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in extreme weather and climate resilience, strong leadership and business development skills, the ability to work collaboratively with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders, and experience in driving innovation and aligning initiatives with business objectives. P&L management experience is also essential. The position reports to the Head of Zurich Resilience Solutions, with preferred locations being the Chicago area or New York. However, we are open to considering other Zurich office locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead implementation of the extreme weather and climate resilience strategy for Zurich Resilience Solutions.

  • Collaborate with clients to assess extreme weather and climate risks and opportunities, and develop tailored resilience plans.

  • Provide expert guidance on extreme weather and climate risk management, including physical, transition, and liability risks.

  • Work with internal teams to integrate extreme weather and climate considerations into existing risk management frameworks and solutions.

  • Build the Zurich Resilience Solutions brand in the marketplace and at industry events, conferences, and in the media, showcasing our thought leadership in climate resilience.

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in climate science, policy, and regulation, and ensure our solutions remain cutting-edge and compliant.

  • Lead and mentor a team of extreme weather and climate specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10 or more years of experience in Engineering areas of practice AND

  • Extensive experience in extreme weather and climate risk management, resilience planning, or related discipline.

  • Strong commercial network and business development experience

  • People management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of developing, bringing to market and implementing extreme weather and climate resilience strategies for businesses.

  • Strong engineering background

  • Solid understanding of extreme weather and climate science and its practical application, policy, and regulations.

  • Extensive knowledge of practical engineering and organizational protection measures for natural hazards, with experience in catastrophe modelling tools and outputs.

  • Some knowledge of risk transfer mechanisms, especially underwriting Nat Cat requirements, processes, guidelines, and tools.

  • Experience in consulting services, or a commercial mindset with an ability to identify opportunities for providing services and a strong customer service orientation.

  • Ability to lead and inspire a team.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Master’s degree in an engineering or natural sciences discipline (preferably civil engineering).

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. In compliance with local laws, Zurich commits to providing a fair and reasonable compensation range for each role. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply, as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The salary indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $146,500.00 - $239,800.00 with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 25%.
