Nexstar Media Group NewsNation Weekend Desk/Field Producer (Chicago) in Chicago, Illinois
NewsNation is looking for a Desk/Field Producer to join the newsgathering team at the network. The desk producer will work directly with correspondents and photojournalists to conduct research, pitch stories, arrange shoots and interviews, gather story elements, coordinate with show teams, graphics department, editors. The role requires the ability to go out and field produce or alternatively produce in house, and is ideal for someone who is editorially savvy, enjoys handling logistics, and can collaborate and coordinate across teams.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct accurate, timely, and well-sourced research
Pitch timely, and unique story and guest ideas
Coordinate interviews and shoots
Conduct informative interviews, highlighting best sound options
Gather and clear elements from affiliates, agencies, social media, etc.
Build out live hits, segments, and packages
Write scripts, script outlines or copy-editing of as needed with strong attention to detail.
Order graphics
Strong communication skills as an effective conduit between field teams, shows, assignment desk and management, to efficiently handle needs and expectations
Distribute new and confirmed editorial to the network on a timely and reliable basis
Be proactive about solving problems efficiently and effectively
Field producing
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Knowledge of current events, able to handle a wide variety of stories.
Balanced, unbiased approach to newsgathering and storytelling.
Requirements & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Minimum three to five years of news production experience
Strong organizational, and people skills are a must
Desktop editing is a must
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and work under deadline pressure
Must be able to work varied shifts: weekends, holidays, nights, overnights, or early mornings. It will be a weekends-based schedule to start.
Must be flexible, able to travel often on short notice for assignments
Must have a valid driver’s license as driving and travel will be required
