The University of Chicago\'s Department of Pathology seeks an academic clinical pathologist and informatician to join its faculty at any rank. The appointee will be based on the University of Chicago\'s Hyde Park campus but may also cover off-site outpatient laboratories. Additionally, the appointee will have clinical responsibilities in clinical pathology. The appointee will work under the direct supervision of the Vice Chair, Clinical Pathology. Academic rank, track, and compensation (including a generous package of fridge benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

We are seeking a results-driven clinical informaticist to evaluate clinical, laboratory, and pathologic data to improve Pathology departmental operations as well as help target and monitor laboratory and pathology test utilization improvements and help to focus and monitor departmental and interdepartmental quality initiatives. The appointee will be gathering and evaluating operational and testing data, developing effective departmental information dashboards, and through data, enabling the department to collaborate on targeted healthcare service improvements. Other duties may include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity.

In addition to critical operational and quality initiatives, there is the possibility that machine learning and predictive analytics might be developed with this data to contribute to optimized health services and quality patient care.

CLINICAL INFORMATICIST RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzing and interpreting data to identify areas that need improvement
  • Enhancing health information systems that support the collection, sharing, standardization, and integration of departmental healthcare data
  • Collaborating on improving standards of care, policies, and procedures
  • Training departmental staff on the use of any developed data analytics and displays
  • Providing technical support, optimizing security, and maintaining departmental databases as appropriate
  • Ensuring compliance in healthcare information management regulations
  • Documenting processes, maintaining records, and preparing reports
  • Keeping abreast of advancements in the field of clinical informatics

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for a medical license in the State of Illinois and the State of Indiana, 3) have board certification in AP/CP or CP only (with or without an additional subspecialty) through the American Board of Pathology, and 4) have the ability to carry and maintain CLIA licensure.
