Phlebotomist research responsibilities

Ideal applicants would have experience recruiting for research study participants and with phlebotomy

Summary:

The Rush Institute for Healthy Aging Oak Lawn location is looking for experienced Phlebotomists with blood processing experience. The Research Assistant role does require travel, it involves blood draws in the office and going into participant’s homes primarily on the Southwest side of Chicago

The Research Assistant is responsible for collecting information from participants according to the research study protocols. Conduct interviews, epidemiological, social or behavioral assessments, and collect data and/or biological samples from research participants and families in studies. Assists in writing a variety of reports and publications and assisting in interviewing subjects to gain understanding of their health and wellbeing. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  1. May recruit, screen and schedule potential study participants.

  2. May write and create surveys utilizing standard research protocol.

  3. May assist in grant proposal writing.

  4. May identify community partners in the Chicagoland area.

  5. May assist in communications with researchers and members of the research community.

  6. Recruit and schedule participants for research study, including explaining the goals of the study, obtaining informed consent, and arranging for the evaluation of study participants.

  7. May conduct focus group.

  8. Follow up by phone, email, and mail with study participants.

  9. Participate in the preparation and delivery of presentations to disseminate study findings.

  10. Analyze data and drafts data reports, manuscripts and presentations.

  11. Utilizes approved informed consent and HIPAA procedures.

  12. Administers involved, systematic tests and questionnaires including the assessment of participant eligibility, level of function, and/or response to intervention(s) according to research study protocols.

  13. Helps maintain study procedure documentation.

  14. Prepares study related materials.

  15. May assist with data entry, cleaning and guided analysis.

  16. Monitors study participants as required by study protocol.

  17. Maintains supply inventory.

  18. May utilize study-related devices and equipment as part of assessment procedures.

  19. Maintains study records and edits for completeness and accuracy.

  20. Attends regular team meetings.

  21. Troubleshoots field issues when necessary.

  22. Uses discretion to resolve issues when unplanned events arise.

Other information:

Required Job Qualifications:

• Some college with prior data collection experience.

• Entry level proficiency in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets and databases.

• Detail oriented with high attention to accuracy.

• Strong written and verbal communications.

• Ability to develop rapport with a diverse pool of research participants.

• Ability to navigate sensitive topics and maintain confidentiality of participants.

• Ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary team settings.

• May require 6-8 weeks training depending on study protocols.

• Availability to work evenings, overnight and weekends if called for under the study protocols.

• May require personal transportation to field location.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree. If degreed, no prior experience required.

• Prior work with research study protocols.

• Phlebotomy experience, trained as a phlebotomist, or equivalent training

• Bilingual in English and Spanish
