How you will create an impact
This is a key leadership role in our Excess Casualty team where you will:
Problem solve and set the standard for underwriters in driving high quality underwriting and superior responsiveness, including risk selection, limit and exposure management, analysis of unique coverages, development of manuscript endorsements, support of rating/pricing adequacy, assessment of underlying terms and structures, and calibration of underwriting appetite.
Lead underwriting response to litigation matters, including serving as a corporate witness for claims and coverage litigation matters and policy certifications.
Mentor, train and communicate with underwriters and underwriting assistants on critical underwriting topics, and efficiently handle account referrals and roundtables.
Maintain strong governance, including managing the underwriting team’s support of Excess Casualty forms and rate filings.
Drive the alignment of Excess Casualty business operations and improvement of end-to-end underwriting capabilities through active participation in company projects, including system, form, and rater enhancements.
Manage the peer review process and assist with division audits.
Maintain data integrity and portfolio stewardship throughout the underwriting process.
Provide clear communication of appetite and responsiveness to emerging risks through enhancement of business rules and guidelines.
What you’ll need to succeed
Leadership Skills :
Strategic oriented, capable of managing and communicating vision, purpose and values.
Strong presentation and communication skills.
Technical Skills & Expertise:
At least 15 years of insurance experience.
Sustained track record in casualty underwriting with at least ten years of senior underwriting experience.
Strong casualty underwriting experience across small, midsized, and large risks for Excess Casualty.
Extensive knowledge of admitted insurance standards, practices, and principles.
Strong knowledge of optimizing underwriting results though sound underwriting decisions in Excess Casualty lines of business.
Excellent analytical and technical underwriting skills
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with colleagues within and across departments.
Ability to effectively manage time and deadlines.
Excellent technology skills, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Adobe.
Ability to mentor and develop talent.
Proven collaborative leadership, with ability to manage projects, work across multiple areas, and engage with a variety of industries.
Strong acumen for change management and team leadership.
