This is the senior staff position supporting SSD\'s Summer Institute in Social Research Methods (SISRM).

Job Summary

The job provides professional support for continuing education programming. Uses knowledge of internal and external University issues to administer program curriculum, policies, and procedures. Conducts communications and outreach for these programs, and responds to inquiries from enrolled students.

The Program Manager contributes to the design, development, and administration of curricular and co-curricular programs for the Summer Institute in Social Research Methods (SISRM). The Program Manager maintains an understanding of academic goals in undergraduate and graduate education and contributes to the design, development and administration of curricular and co-curricular programs that advance the Division\'s academic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead student admissions, recruiting, enrollment, and student advancement for the Summer Institute in Social Research Methods (SISRM).
  • Support the SISRM faculty director to plan, schedule, oversee, and evaluate SISRM course offerings; work independently to follow-through on program priorities and strategies developed with the SISRM faculty director and SISRM course instructors. Partner with the University Registrar to manage all SISRM course listings.
  • Implement admissions and recruiting strategies to achieve multiple program goals, including admissions targets for University of Chicago undergraduate student enrollment and targeted recruitment of external college student. With the faculty director, maintain partnership with other colleges and universities to support SISRM enrollment goals. Manage the SISRM admissions process, including pre-application marketing and individual consultation with prospective applicants, applicant review and admissions decisions, and student recruiting, and partner with Summer Session to oversee student enrollment.
  • Support the design and implementation of workshops and other co-curricular and student support activities to promote student enrichment. Take initiative to propose workshop design for co-curricular programs that advance the mission of SISRM and familiarize students with the practice of social science research . Maintain strong working partnerships with Career Advancement, the Center for Research and Fellowships, the University Libraries, Office of Civic Engagement, Social & Behavioral Sciences Institutional Review Board, and other campus resources. Organize an active program of field trips to familiarize students with diverse fields of social science research beyond the academic world.
  • Manage a large program of competitive SISRM Research Assistant internship awards. Administer an annual Call for Proposals from faculty across the University to place SISRM interns on faculty research projects. Monitor, evaluate, and course-correct student internship experiences. Manage the budget for SISRM interns, including coordination with SSD Dean\'s office, College Financial Aid and Student Advancement, and Summer Session. Support the faculty director and senior Divisional administration with grant-writing and fund-raising appeals to individual donors to develop financial support for SISRM RA interns.
  • Collaborates with internal and external professionals to create new programs and enhance existing ones. Assists with evaluating the program curriculum, policies, and procedures.
  • Gathers and analyzes data concerning program performance, and writes repo ts. Monitors program budgets.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor\'s degree with minimum two years of administrative experience in academic affairs or student affairs.
  • Advanced degree.

Experience:

  • Experience administering summer and/or interdisciplinary academic programs and designing/implementing co-curricular programs.
  • Experience with standard productivity software (MS Word, Excel, email), presentation software, and internet database/workflow tools; experience with registrar and student database systems.
