Rush University Medical Center Psychologist - Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences - Road Home - Chicago (Downtown) in Chicago, Illinois
Job Description
Clinical Psychologist – Military Service Members and Veterans – Clinical Faculty
Rush University Medical Center
Chicago, IL
Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Clinical Psychologist. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting a clinical psychologist for the Road Home Program: The National Center of Excellence for Veterans and Their Families at Rush (RHP). RHP is part of the Warrior Care Network, serving as its Midwest regional center focusing on the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) through innovative accelerated evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) for service members and veterans recovering from traumatic exposures during their service. Additionally, RHP provides individualized care on an outpatient basis to service members, veterans and eligible family members to help heal the invisible wounds of military service.
The successful candidate will play an integral role in RHP’s virtual clinical service, where they will directly treat military service members, veterans, and eligible family members. Most of the psychologist’s clinical time will consist of delivering individual psychotherapy virtually in a massed or accelerated format. Psychologists will also engage in diagnostic assessment and providing skills-focused groups (e.g., mindfulness training). Psychologists may be expected to supervise trainees, teach medical students and residents, and engage in research and program development. Psychologists will receive an academic appointment through Rush Medical College, so psychologists will be expected to approach their work through a scientist-practitioner perspective. The ideal candidate for this position will have clinical experience assessing and treating PTSD, particularly using EBPs for PTSD, such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) or Prolonged Exposure (PE). Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology with an APA-approved internship as well as a one-year psychology post-doctoral fellowship. Qualified candidates must be either licensed or license-eligible in the state of Illinois and certified or certification-eligible to practice via the Interjurisdictional Telepsychology compact (PSYPACT). This position is remote-eligible. Candidates that have previous clinical experience with military service members or veterans are particularly well-suited. Moreover, ideal candidates will have clinical experience working with people who identify with a diverse range of demographic categories and cultural backgrounds. Additional consideration may be given to experiences that reflect a dedication to supporting the veteran population who we have the honor to serve.

We’re passionate about health equity: for the communities we serve, for our patients and for our employees. We know that the South and West Sides of Chicago have historically been underserved. As a result, there is a 16-year gap in the life expectancy of someone in Chicago’s Loop versus someone in Chicago’s West Side. As the largest employer on Chicago’s West Side, we take it seriously that our institution can change this. Rush has built a strong Office of Community Health Equity and Engagement, and we founded the RUSH BMO Institute of Health Equity. As part of our Anchor Mission strategy, we hire, invest, buy and source, and volunteer locally. We’ve invested more than $6 million on the West Side since 2018, and that number continues to grow every year. And, of course, we continue to provide excellent patient care for everyone who comes to Rush.
