The Area Product Owner supports CIBC’s goal of being #1 in customer experience by developing and maintain a vision for the product(s) that delivers on iterations to drive Stakeholders’ product needs that maximize business value.

The Area Product Owner works closely with the CRM Product Owner to align product visions as well as roadmaps. You will work with internal Stakeholders to identify, design, and prioritize product capabilities and improvements. You will collaborate with other Area Product Owners, Data Domain Leads, Technical Leads and Developers, and third parties to bring the vision to life. This includes understanding the people, process, technology, and data required to execute.

This hybrid role is available anywhere in the U.S. Based on location you may be virtual.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Own and align the domain vision and roadmap with that of the overall product.

  • Partner across disciplines to understand convergence with core platform and key initiatives to help drive planning and development.

  • Manage existing domain backlog and actively lead domain research definition and development for new capabilities and features.

  • Integrate usability studies, prototyping, and research into requirements to enhance user satisfaction and ensure a user-driven design.

  • Work with your aligned business analyst to ensure their user story completeness – description, acceptance criteria, data requirements, personas, Epic and Initiative alignment.

  • Create measurable and reportable KPIs to quantify capability and feature value propositions on your roadmap.

  • Own & resolve risks, issues, and interdependencies while providing transparency into progress & challenges.

  • Commitment to share your formal and experiential knowledge with a growing team and organization.

  • Ability to take on increasing scope and level of responsibilities as this role evolves.

  • Work with Stakeholders to develop a product vision that satisfies their requirements

  • Curate user stories and feedback, prioritizing work on those with maximum value

  • Collaborate with project managers and technical leads to determine product development cycles

  • Manage release plans by monitoring project scope, schedule and budget

  • Support the Scrum Master in facilitating Agile/ Scrum ceremonies and enforcing best practices

  • Communicate business and stakeholder requirements to the development team and ensure their designs align with the product vision

  • Ensure each iteration delivers expected result by working closely with the development team to define, design, accept and adapt features

  • Serve as the internal/ external subject matter expert on the product and primary contact for product related questions

  • Demonstrate the product, purpose, and realization to engage all parties in Sprint at stages of development

  • Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS (Legal, Compliance, External, etc.):

  • All areas of Technology from Analyst to Vice President as appropriate to the engagement

  • Maintains regular contact with Agile delivery teams

  • Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders

  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Successful candidates must exhibit CIBC’s values of trust, teamwork, and accountability

  • 4+ years of experience as an Area Product Owner or related experience

  • 4+ years of experience developing and executing on product roadmaps required.

  • 4+ years business domain experience required.

  • Experience in the financial services industry, ideally Commercial Banking.

  • 1 year of experience with Azure DevOps and/or JIRA

  • Expert Level of understanding of Agile/ Scrum processes, roles, and practices

  • Experience in delivering feature/ functionality in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid environments preferred.

  • Strong communication skills, ability to facilitate technical conversations with technical and non-technical stakeholders, partners and users preferred.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to encourage, motivate, and guide team and install collaboration amongst the Scrum Teams

  • Strong relationship management skills to balance demands of various stakeholders, while also being approachable and assertive

  • Strong business acumen and ability to pick up complex technical concepts easily

  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and project management skills

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams driving the best product and business outcomes.

  • Knowledge of Build Automation and Deployment Automation tools and techniques recommended

  • Project management experience considered an asset
