This role can be based in any of the ADM US offices, but ideally Chicago, IL, Decatur, IL, Erlanger, KY, or Cranbury, NJ

Job Purpose:

The Category Marketing Leader is responsible for driving and creating demand, fueling the customer project pipeline, and accelerating sales by building and ensuring the execution of effective category and customer marketing strategies and plans. This leader is accountable for developing category growth strategies in collaboration with Sales and internal Product Marketing and Technical teams aiming to fuel and support ADM’s growth via customer engagement programs and innovation.

Position must: a) bridge market trend perspectives to articulate differentiated ADM value propositions and compelling reasons elevating ADM as a first-call partner supplier to customers; b) collaborate with the sales team to drive customer engagement opportunities, focusing on generating project pipeline, qualified sales leads and new customer wins to fuel incremental growth; c) work closely with product marketers internally to understand and leverage specific product attributes/benefits, as well as technical teams on category application and prototyping of proposed formulations.

Candidate must apply translation of market and consumer trends and insights into strategic customer portfolio and innovation growth opportunities, supported by market data analysis, customer brand understanding and the use of integrated consumer and sensory insights. His/her primary strategic role in collaborating with Sales and Technical teams is to best position ADM’s value proposition behind portfolio ingredients and solutions to meet existing and emerging customer needs. This role is also responsible for serving as the cross-functional leader for multiple key “Where to Play/How to Win” project teams. This role serves as a vital and highly collaborative conduit with Customers and ADM Business Units, as well as across functions including Corporate Communications, Technical, Sales, and other stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Track, analyze and synthesize relevant and meaningful consumer, market, category and brand-specific insights, and link them to ADM advantaged ingredient solutions and enabling technologies to drive short- and long-term results, in partnership with Consumer and Market Insights team.

  • Act as a thought leader and category expert by developing comprehensive knowledge of market dynamics and trends, along with competitor strategies, including a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape and of customer and brand strategies in order to provide timely business growth recommendations to customers, marketing leadership, and commercial teams.

  • Spearhead and drive accelerated demand generation and customer value creation by developing and implementing differentiated and compelling value propositions and programs supported by strong reasons to believe in ADM, capabilities, programs, technologies, ingredients and solutions.

  • Possess and maintain a working knowledge of trends and product lifecycles, as well as ADM’s pantry of ingredient solutions and capabilities, in order to recommend portfolio expansion and innovation opportunities and actions to increase customer engagement.

  • Partner with Sales to deliver customer experience programs including ADM Capabilities Immersion, Innovation Programs, Customer Presentations, Industry Events, working with cross-functional team members.

  • Collaborate with Business Unit Managers, Corporate Communications, Marketing Communications, Market & Consumer Insights, Sales, Sensory, Technical and other key stakeholders to drive results and deliver of business performance goals.

  • Partner with and influence stakeholders at all levels, providing well-grounded strategic recommendations and delivering on marketing executional excellence.

  • Respond to specific marketing needs and/or requests in a timely fashion with a high level of leadership, professionalism and effectiveness while building multidisciplinary team connections.

  • Partner with Sales teams in the development of key customer segmentation and growth strategies, as well as developing targeted presentations to strategic customers, purposeful product demonstrations, and best-practice customer experience engagements.

  • Represent and elevate ADM’s powerhouse ingredient solutions in customer-facing interactions.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Minimum 10 years related brand, customer, or marketing management experience.

  • Proven success in B2C marketing, working in matrixed environments, with a strong track record of developing innovation, programs and promotions to drive growth. The ideal candidate will have B2B experience as well.

  • Strong oral, written, verbal and formal presentation skills are required.

  • Demonstrated success designing solutions and personally selling to customers (not just consumers).

  • Sharp leadership skills demonstrated by multi-disciplinary collaboration and team development.

  • Demonstrated hands-on analytical and strategic problem solving skills with a focus on tactical, practical execution and on driving results collaboratively.

  • Experience building brands within the food, beverage and ingredients industry. (Experience with savory and culinary categories, specialty ingredients, and health & wellness a major plus.)

  • Handles changing priorities, a fast-paced environment and tight deadlines with ease and maturity.

  • Professional demeanor with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Aptitude and experience tracking, analyzing and synthesizing relevant consumer, market, category and brand-specific insights to drive strategies and incremental growth.

  • Strong influencing skills with a highly collaborative mindset to drive shared results.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business or related field required

  • MBA strongly preferred

Salary/Wage Range: $175K to $210K, but we have flexibility.
