Indian Health Service Dietitian - ESEP/MP in Chinle, Arizona

Summary The primary purpose of the position is to provide professional work of nutrition directed towards the maintenance and improvement of health in various settings of a hospital, outpatient clinic, mobile units, virtual platforms, local community area of schools, chapter houses, and businesses of grocery and convenient store. This position is located in the Chinle Service Unit, Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, Division of Public Health, Clinical Community Nutrition Services, Chinle, AZ. NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered. POSITION IS REANNOUNCED AS OPEN UNTIL FILLED - the vacancy will close when a selection is made. Plans, implements, and evaluates nutrition services, education and prevention with special emphasis on individual and family-oriented education sufficient to: Medical nutrition therapy to individuals and nutrition education to groups. Conducts nutritional assessment. Uses evidence-based tools to calculate nutrient requirements and diet restrictions or food and drug interactions. Interpret nutritional needs and document findings. Evaluate patterns and relationships among data obtained and root causes for nutrition problems Obtains data and analyze and interpret data based on evidence-based standards. Provides health education/promotion interventions including breastfeeding support to individuals and groups. Guide individuals/families in food selection, preparation, or menu planning based on nutritional needs and established guidelines. Plan for and participate in group teaching and training of clients, staff, and community members to expand services and increase patients, participants and the public awareness of evidence-based messages that promote improving and maintaining healthy health status. Record information in medical records (progress notes), as well as in the Electronic Health Record regarding nutritional requirements, patient's progress, education, follow-up, and etc. Participate in routine record maintenance incompliance with the Privacy Act and organizational policies. Serves as a liaison and supports other's efforts to address nutrition-related services, topics, issues, etc., in the form of presentation, facilitation, in-services, social marketing, and other means as necessary Participates in quality monitoring of services provided in various activities. This includes but is not limited to patient rounds, departmental and specific nutrition-related committees, observation assessments, patient meals, medical record reviews, patients' experiences and satisfaction, clinics, community-related activities, inventory of equipment and supplies, and others. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following requirements for all grade levels: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics(external link) (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)(external link) (formerly American Dietetic Association(external link) (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Note: Applicants who have completed a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists; or applicants who possess professional registration as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietician Nutritionist meet the requirement for GS-7. AND SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - DIETITIAN possess a valid Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) and/or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). (You must provide a copy of your registration for verification along with your resume). In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Planning menu for patients on special diet plans, observing patient food intake, documenting findings, recording information in medical records, and working with food service staff. OR 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement GS09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Correcting menu for patients on special diet plans, interpreting nutritional needs, recording information in medical records, guiding families in preparing for menu planning based on nutritional needs, providing health education, and promotion that includes breast feeding support. OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
