Job Purpose The Advanced Engineer, Embedded Controls supports development and testing of generator systems, working as part of Hyliion's KARNO technology team. This position will work with hardware and software engineers to deliver embedded systems solutions. Duties and Responsibilities Design and integration of embedded systems software and hardware for controlling generator technologies Work in a lab environment with hands-on systems integration support Test and evaluation of new embedded system features and functions Working with host PC interfaces for logging, viewing, analyzing, and summarizing data from embedded targets Participate in daily stand-ups and other team meetings Qualifications Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Qualifications include: Education, Experience and Certifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline 5+ years of experience in embedded systems design and integration At least 3 years of experience with MSEE is preferred Experience with embedded systems hardware and software integration including proficiency with real-time systems programming, reading schematics, using debuggers, logging and analyzing data, troubleshooting, flashing controllers, embedded communication protocols, etc. Skills and Abilities Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a team and on own initiative Good analytical troubleshooting skills with excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new methods and processes Proficiency with real-time systems analysis, design, implementation, and testing Embedded systems software development experience in C programming Proficiency with maintaining large code bases with source code configuration and control Experience with data logging and analysis of large volumes of data for performance and root cause analysis (including parsing, plotting, calculating summary metrics, etc.) Using lab instruments (meters, scopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, etc.) for embedded systems testing and debugging. Control systems design experience with sensor and actuator interfaces Familiarity with electronics design including PCBAs, power supplies, filters, amplifiers, discrete I/Os, buffers, transceivers, connectors, etc. Model based controls development experience using MATLAB/Simulink including auto-code generation in Simulink is a plus Python scripting and data analysis experience is a plus Power electronics knowledge and experience with electrical machines is a plus Experience with model-based simulations (including SIL and HIL) is a plus Experience with ARM Cortex-M based MCUs and development environments is a plus Role Classification and Working Conditions This is a salaried, exempt -level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments. Physical/Other Requirements Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
