Department: Visitor Experience Job Title/Classification: Illumination Specialists (Festival of Lights - Hanging Team) Reports to: Public Events Operations Coordinator Pay: $16.00 Position Summary: The PNC Festival of Lights began 42 years ago to attract, educate and INSPIRE visitors through the holiday season. The first displays were simple luminaries around Swan Lake and displays of seasonal lighting around the Zoo. Every year since then, the Zoo has tried to outdo the previous display and is constantly adding new elements. In 2023, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden displayed more than 4 million lights and was voted USA Today's Best Zoo Lights for the 6th year in a row! Festival of Lights has consistently been one of the busiest parts of the year, bringing in hundreds of thousands of guests and remains a Cincinnati mainstay in the winter months. The Zoo is now hiring for the light hanging crew to continue this Cincinnati tradition. This position is a part-time seasonal role. The bulk of this work will be carried out evenings and weekends from August through March. Depending on performance and openings, members of this team will be given preferred consideration for operational roles during Festival of Lights when set up concludes, though pay rates and hours may change depending on the role. The ideal candidate for this role will have strong communication skills, work well independently, and have an eye for detail. Start date July 29th, 2024 Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to: Testing and hanging holiday lighting from ground level. Working independently from reference images and design book. Working with Supervisors and Project Mangers to meet design standards. Striving to deliver an INSPIRED experience for our visitors. Observing operation, basic trouble shooting and maintaining displays during the Festival. Tear down, packing and storing lights after Festival. Events set up and tear down Other tasks as assigned. Key details for this position: Employment is considered seasonal/ non-benefited; Variable hours not to exceed an annual average of 30 hours per week. This is an outdoor, physical job. Candidates should be prepared to work in all weather conditions. Job includes standing, walking, bending, climbing, moving containers up to 50lbs, without accommodation. Evening availability required. To be considered, candidate must be at least 18 years of age or older. Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen and background check.
