Job Description

BAE Systems Intelligence division is searching for a Paralegal to join us supporting the FBI Office of General Counsel (OGC), Litigation Branch (LITB), Criminal Justice Information Services legal team in Clarksburg WV.

The LITB provides legal client services to all FBI entities and FBI personnel in civil litigation and other administrative matters by court ordered deadlines, in addition to serving as a resource and facilitator for other types of document processing and production.

The expectation of the contractor will be to provide professional, accurate, timely, and reliable paralegal support reporting to the OGC and will be detailed to assist LITB. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, personnel resources provided by the Contractor shall often develop these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. Personnel assigned to this task must have the ability to adjust to changing priorities and work well under pressure.

The general Paralegal tasks include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Receive, prioritize, and process requests such as document review or requests for advice or legal technical assistance. Research and locate responsive information documents and identify relevant laws, judicial decisions, and legal articles Perform typical Paralegal functions, including moderately complex legal research; synopsizing transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviewing case related materials; and identifying potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation. Write preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.

  • Assist in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, exhibits, etc.; conducting legal analysis, reviewing documents for relevance and privilege; and assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation. Review materials in discovery for relevancy and privilege and prepare privilege logs. Maintain documentation of records produced in discovery, correspondence sent, and case management functions performed. Assist in the drafting and issuing of preservation notices and litigation holds. Design, generate, and transmit reports regarding case assignments and productivity using case management databases.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

In order to be successful in this position must have obtained a Paralegal degree or certificate and a minimum of 2 or more years of experience in the following:

  • Litigation paralegal experience with trial experience.

  • Working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.

  • Researching and analyzing various legal and regulatory sources

  • Performing complex legal research an analysis of legislative history, precedent case law, decision and opinions

  • Preparing detailed written documents which explain legal reasoning

  • Planning and carrying out assignments and coordinating activities with professional legal staff of the agency and with staff of other Federal or state entities.

  • Performing legal research and writing.

  • Preparing legal memoranda and correspondence.

  • Assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation, including aiding with discovery requests and responses; reviewing documents for relevance and privilege; drafting motions and briefs; organizing exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices; and assisting at trial.

  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools, such as LEXIS NEXIS and Westlaw.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and manage complex relationships with all stakeholders.

  • Delivers highest quality work under pressure.

  • The ability to summarize legal issues and facts.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $64440 - $109530

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
