Job Description :
Indorama Ventures- Intermediate Chemicals is looking for a Senior Process Safety Engineer to join our Intermediate Chemicals team in Clear Lake, Texas. In this role, you will provide technical advice and guidance to ensure process hazards are identified, risks are assessed, and cost-effective solutions are implemented. Likewise, shall demonstrate a strong consideration for safety, environmental stewardship, training, and development, as well as promoting continuous improvement in the operations.
What will be expected from you?
Be an influential advisor to line management by building and fostering a deep understanding of the theoretical concepts, industry standards and best practices in one or more Indovinya Safety Core Processes (people/process safety) and/or sub-processes (for example: behavior-based safety, industrial hygiene, hazard study, asset integrity, environmental management, and distribution safety) as they are relevant to the site.
Always seek to update connections with the IT and digital areas, seeking solutions in risk management, various software, focusing on innovation through modeling technologies, analysis of risk scenarios in real time, barrier management, etc.
Be an effective coach for the site by leveraging and extending its PSM knowledge through personal participation in Indovinya meetings for delivery of the learning programs, auditing and/or incident investigation and/or through training activities within the global PSM team as well as through personal functional development.
Guideline management to develop and ensure implementation of HSE/PSM policies, plans and practices for the Pasadena in line with the Indovinya HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures (HSE Procedures) and in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements; together with and in support of line management, set the safety culture and manage hazards.
Spend time engaging with employees and act as a role model for ensuring compliance with and commitment to the Indovinya HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures, including its risk tolerance criteria (Indovinya Risk Matrix).
Contribute to the development of the PSM strategy for design, deployment, and delivery of the Indovinya HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures and Safety for the site at the next higher level, to ensure alignment of objectives and performance of the facility.
Manage the resources needed to ensure that customer, community, and stakeholder requirements are deployed as requirements for Process Safety programs.
Promote constant benchmarking with Best-in-Class companies, being connected with market trends and best practices, sharing with teams, and applying applicable development plans.
Promote the relationship and guarantee the fulfillment of the stakeholders demands related to Process safety: public agencies, regulators and external affairs, client, community, etc.
Continuously improve BSC (Balanced Score Card) elements related to process safety.
Promote the constant approach of process safety with the interface areas of the Unit, such as process engineering (technology), operation, maintenance, demand, logistics, etc. Be an influential advisor to line management and a specialist support.
Accomplish with the Maintenance area related to mechanical integrity plans that minimize impacts to the company's assets that are designated as scenario barriers related to the PHA and Aspects and Impact programs.
Promote the holding of meetings of Indovinya Process Safety Professionals.
Acting along with justifications and strategies that make feasible investments in favor of meeting the recommendations of the accidents of processes and recommendations of PHA (using risk-based approach decision – Risk Matrix).
Develop initiatives that aim to reduce the number of accidents / incidents of processes that trigger financial impacts (direct or indirect) to Indovinya, especially fire and explosions.
Manage the established practices for attendance and control of waste generation considering the reduction of financial impacts (direct or indirect) in Indovinya.
Manage established practices for emergency response considering the reduction of financial impacts (direct or indirect) in Indovinya.
Ensure PHA recommendations are harmonized with technology and recognized best practices and engineering standards.
Implement tools and procedures that are easy to understand and friendly, optimizing the interface with internal clients.
Manage, implement, and report local PSM indicators, promoting through the process of critical analysis the continuous improvement of work processes.
To manage the records related to the Process Safety area, through systematic control to ensure the tracking (traceability), adequacy and reliability of the information, evidencing the effective functioning of the Quality Assurance, Environment, Health and Safety Management Systems (IMS - Integrated Management System);
Manage the process of corrective and preventive actions, when the occurrence of nonconformities related to non-conformities, accidents of processes.
Carry out awareness campaigns for promoting the PSM culture. Sharing PSM Knowledge (Training & Development) to get operational readiness.
Communication skills (verbal and written) with Senior Management, peers, and direct reports will be essential. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, entrepreneurship, result oriented, negotiation, problem solving, project management, business acumen.
Positive influencing: ability to connect people, gain agreement or acceptance of plans, activities, and ability to move others willingly towards a desired goal or course of action.
Able to work in an inclusive way in the HSE team to make sure the business experiences ‘one voice’ and the team’s collective objectives are met.
Ability to drive continuous improvement of the processes, policies, and standards.
Promote the awareness and formation of a culture focused on process safety and the implementation of the management system requirements through the formalization of administrative and operational procedures.
Ensure the incident lessons learning deployment.
Ensure the execution / review of periodic hazard studies trough employee involvement as well as the fulfillment of its recommendations and support the emergency response plans preparation through sharing risk scenarios that must be covered.
Coordinate and conduct audits in Process Safety, ensuring operations discipline and compliance with corporate guidelines and standards.
What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?
Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering or related field from an accredited university.
5 plus years of experience in Process Safety Management including Process Hazard Analysis and Layers of Protection Analysis preferred, or three plus years of experience in plant operations or engineering.
Previous experience in Process Engineering: Desired.
Advanced education degree (e.g., Master, or post-degree) in a Process Safety Professional will be a plus.
Computer skills
Microsoft Office: Advanced/Proficient - Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
MS Project: Desired.
PHA-pro for HazOp, LOPA/SIL Validation and BowTie: Desired.
Specific Systems for Incident Report System (e.g., Intelex): Desired.
Proficiency with some computing skills as well as AI tools, Power BI and Tableau for data analysis tools and visual dashboard construction.
Specific skills
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA-RMP, etc.).
Ability to plan, delegate, and organize tasks to consistently produce results within the deadlines.
Ability to facilitate & control a multi-disciplined, cross-functional team.
Must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate with multiple layers of the organization.
Knowledgeable on Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and risk assessment, including HAZOP, What-If, LOPA, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) identification + SIS Design understanding and review.
Ability to apply and interpret standards and procedures to various situations.
Solid background and knowledge about OSHA/CCPS Process Safety Management standard as well as other legal requirements like EPA-RMP.
Strong knowledge regarding Incident investigation techniques.
Strong knowledge and expertise with RAGAGEP (NFPAs, ASME, ANSI, API, ISA, IEC etc.).
Knowledge of chemical and petrochemical production routines and processes related to health and safety issues.
Knowledge about guidelines, regulatory resolutions and systems related to the Emergency Response Plan and fire protection systems.
Knowledge of the programs applied to risk management (insurance inspection).
Knowledge of the management and operation of the Process Safety Devices (Protection Layers): process logics, interlocks, safety devices to avoid loss of primary containment and post-containment;
