JOB SUMMARY

The Clear Lake Project Process Engineer reports directly to the Regional Acrylics BU Manufacturing Director, Americas and reports functionally, to the Acrylics BU Global Process & Technology Manager.

This position is US-based. It is located in the Houston area, and he/she support the Clear Lake manufacturing site.

  • Deep knowledge of the BU processes. 3 different process technologies currently operated or studied.

  • Responsible for studies (process development) for industrial capital projects -from 1 to 50M€, or more or for plant supports (3 to 5 studies carried out simultaneously}

  • Definition and management of Process resources for studies that may be placed under his/her responsibility (from hundreds to several thousand man hours)

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • [5%] Comply with safety rules and requirements of plant site. Participate in Behavior safety program. Participate in incident investigations, management of change reviews, process hazard analysis (and other process safety activities) as required.

  • [30%] Develop independently, either by himself/herself, or with a teamworking under his/her supervision, the process studies which are under his/her responsibility. Review the studies that may be partially or totally subcontracted to vendors. Coordinate and validate the safety studies on projects which are under his/her responsibility.

  • [10%] Propose and promote ideas for the implementation of process improvements, either on studies/projects which are under his/her responsibility, or through his/her participation in peer reviews for other projects. Implement Best Practices in Process design, as required during his/her mission.

  • [10%] Ensure the coordination and provides input for his/her projects to the local plant team, the BU process team, the Corporate Technical Centers (of France and US), the Corporate Social Responsibility division, the Corporate HES.

  • [10%] Ensure, within the BU, the sharing of experience between the different members of the local team, as well as with the teams of other plants operating similar processes. Participate in the definition of R&D programs and provide support during their development.

  • [10%] Support plant process improvement engineers as needed on process design tools. Participate in internal and external benchmark, with the aim of ensuring the technology follow up, as required to maintain and improve the Arkema's processes competitiveness,

  • [25%] Serve as key technical resource for the commissioning and start-up of the new processes, commissioning, and plant start-up. Organize and lead test runs after startup of major projects. Prepare and present post commercialization reviews for these projects.

    The competitive environment imposes strong constraints in terms of cost and schedule reductions of investments and of studies.

    The individual must have:

  • A strong technical background in continuous processes and reactor technology, preferably including experience with operations and new equipment commissioning and start-up.

  • Experience with staged development projects from conceptual design to feasibility and FEED

  • Individual must be able to communicate on multiple levels of organization and with external contractors. Individual must be able to manage multiple tasks in parallel required by the management of the major projects.

  • Understands and Supports the Clear Lake Facility Acrylic Monomers HSE2Q Commitment.

    Minimum Qualifications and Education Required

  • Five to ten years of experience with previous assignments in chemical process, manufacturing, or in production/start-up. High capability to work within matrix organization.

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.

  • Thorough understanding of process chemistry and engineering. Independently identifies bottlenecks and opportunities in the process.

  • Proficient in multiple chemical manufacturing digital tools. Mentors others. Keeps current with digital developments. Proficient in multiple chemical manufacturing digital tools. Mentors others. Keeps current with digital developments.

  • Application of multiple manufacturing digital tools, chemical process simulation, control and databases at plant level with tangible results.

  • Efficient use of six sigma tools in the normal work process and develops project opportunities based on data analysis. Coaches less experienced engineers to use appropriate data analysis tools.

  • Leads a digital portfolio.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written,

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, track, and drive multiple tasks and priorities to achieve desired objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop or validate technical deliverables in support of all phases of capital projects.

    Certifications/Trainings:

  • Greenbelt certification preferred

  • Competencies -Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
