OBJECTIVES / PURPOSE OF JOB

The Engineering Manager is responsible for Manufacturing Engineering, product and technical support including continuous improvement, automation development, MOB, equipment productivity, utilization and uptime, technical guidance for new product and process transfers, regulatory compliance for medical devices and other departmental and organization endeavors as may be identified by the Director of Operations.

KEY ACTIVITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management :

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, maintenance, & facility personnel.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability within the team.

  • Develop and mentor staff, providing guidance and opportunities for professional growth.

Engineering Oversight:

  • Oversee the design, development, and validation of Class II & III medical devices.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant internal and external regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Implement and maintain robust engineering processes, including risk management, design control, and change management.

Facilities Management:

  • Ensure the maintenance and operation of manufacturing facilities are in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety standards.

  • Manage facility upgrades, expansions, and maintenance projects to support production needs and projected future growth.

Maintenance Management:

  • Develop and implement preventative & predictive maintenance programs for production and facility equipment.

  • Ensure rapid response and resolution to equipment failures and facility issues to minimize downtime.

Quality and Compliance:

  • Cross-function collaboration to ensure all engineering activities meet regulatory and quality standards.

  • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring readiness and compliance.

  • Accountability of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to engineering and facility operations.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets for the engineering, facilities, and maintenance departments.

  • Allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines and operational needs.

  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or compliance.

Project Management:

  • Oversee engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget.

  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment and support for project objectives.

  • Provide regular project updates to key stakeholders to ensure alignment and prioritization.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

  • BS Engineering degree with advance degree desired

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in key leadership/management role related to engineering.

  • Previous medical device manufacturing supervisory experience with demonstrated knowledge of regulatory rules and guidelines as related to class III medical device products.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team towards achieving goals and objectives.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and decision-making skills with the ability to analyze complex situations and develop effective solutions.

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, and automation.

  • Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets/presentations using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI)

  • Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as six sigma, 5S, and lean manufacturing. Black belt in six sigma lean manufacturing a plus.
