GE Vernova Sr Engineering Manager – Power Sensing Equipment in Clearwater, Florida

Job Description Summary

The Engineering manager position will be responsible for owning project control activities involved with the design of low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) power sensing products to meet customer specific applications for the Clearwater, FL location. Additionally, this role will have responsibility for leading and developing the LV & MV Engineering teams.

This role drives consistent functional specifications and common processes for projects implementation. Activities that are conducted to better understand or ultimately meet the expectations of the customer Impacts the team's ability to achieve service, quality and timeliness of objectives. The role is subject to operating policy objectives. There is a high level of autonomy within the role. High levels of operational judgment are required to achieve outcomes required.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Supports and drives all safety requirements and expectations.

  • Leads and develops engineering team members, requires specialized knowledge within the LV and MV instrument transformers industry. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.

  • Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) as part of the pre-ITO (requisition) process while interfacing with the commercial team. Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies. Designs typically comply with IEEE and/or IEC standards as well as customer specifications. Solutions may include integration with switches, reactors, arresters, PTs, and CTs.

  • To include 'ITO': Technical analysis of client need: definition and optimization of the products; scope (description); schedule; industrial scheme; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures. Documentation of technical specifications & costing elements for further contract execution phases. This also includes OTR part where engineers work on customizing the products and implementing it for specific customer needs.

  • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.

  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handles complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

  • May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.

  • Ability to, and lead team members in:

  • Reviewing customer specifications and create proposed solutions including cost estimates and proposal drawings.

  • Interacting with the customer and marketing to resolve questions and issues related to generating a proposed solution.

  • Processing requisitions, create drawings, and bill of materials for manufacturing.

  • Submit final drawings and instruction books to the customer.

  • Work with production control to co-ordinate order priority, new and/or special items, and identify long lead items.

  • Work with the manufacturing to resolve manufacturing, quality, and process issues. Participate on business productivity teams.

  • Work with marketing and quality teams on customer issue resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering (or high school diploma/GED with 5 years of related leadership in instrument transformers).

  • This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Customer Application Engineering of low and medium voltage equipment.

  • At least 10 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).

Desired Characteristics

  • Background in Power Systems Engineering

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Inventor

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Good mechanical and electrical aptitude

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

  • Established project management skills.

  • SAP Experience a plus
