Assists in coordination and scheduling of equipment, materials and personnel for special transportation jobs and activities. Leads the work of specialized maintenance and/or technical workers. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Assists in assigning and overseeing the work of special jobs and contracted crews.Assists in coordinating with local authorities to develop/implement traffic management plans for special events and incidents including handling and disposal of hazardous material spills on highways; responds as required to perform these functions.Assists in preparing and giving presentations to the public regarding area of responsibility.Assists in preparing daily and weekly work schedules.Assists in the procurement and payment of specialized contractors for specific incident clean up and removal.Ensures projects follow established safety guidelines.Handles public complaints.Inspects maintenance contract work.Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
