Your Opportunity

Our Buildings team is looking for an Electrical Engineer / Project Designer. You will work with direct supervision and general direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Designer. You will assist in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and other low voltage systems and products for projects verifying compliance with applicable codes and internal engineering standards / practices. You will work alongside Electrical Designers and other staff as part of a project team. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include Revit and AutoCAD design, engineering calculations, and field work.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Creates electrical design documentation for the electrical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs such as Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Performs engineering calculations to analyze and design individual building electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

  • Works independently with architectural, interior designers, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project with the support of a senior engineer/ designer.

  • Performs field work with direction from a senior engineer/ designer to review existing facility conditions for use in development of site-specific electrical design documents and to review work being performed by contractors.

  • Assists with engineering construction administration duties on projects, including review of shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and preparation of site observation / punchlist reports.

  • Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity, including attending client meetings, developing value engineering design strategies, and performing basic cost estimating activities.

  • Assists in evaluation and selection of building electrical systems / materials and development of job specific discipline specifications.

  • Assists with review of applicable building codes and product data sheets to collect data to support design decisions.

  • Works with junior staff to train them on applicable software programs and fundamental electrical / building codes.

  • Maintains current knowledge of technologies and trends, as they apply to the applicable project and market types, and continually strengthen skills.

  • Implements sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Solid understanding and knowledge of power distribution systems, lighting systems, and low voltage systems for the built environment.

  • Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes.

  • Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.

  • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines.

  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes and Applicable Energy Codes.

  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to take direction, follow process, and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.

  • Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience with AGI 32, Visual lighting software, SKM, Newforma is advantageous.

  • General knowledge of low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security and fire alarm is advantageous.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry. Candidate should be working towards or has successfully passed the EIT exam and is working toward licensure. PE preferred but not required.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
