Global Patient Services (GPS) is a unique department at Cleveland Clinic with ties all over the world. As a GPS Healthcare Coordinator/Interpreter, you will serve patients' needs, touch lives and make everlasting impacts. After 90 days of employment, you will have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule working three days on-site and two days remotely. A caregiver in this position works 8:00am - 4:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Coordinate patient services and respond to a wide variety of patient requests for the International Patient including relationship management, appointments coordination, health system navigation, conflict resolution, intensive problem solving and risk mitigation, communications while assisting international patients and physicians, professional and administrative staff members.

  • Facilitate the coordination of care involving a broad spectrum of professional discipline, socioeconomic and cultural perspectives.

  • Assist international and limited English proficiency (LEP) patients and physicians or other healthcare workers by facilitating the communication process.

  • Interpret dialogue and written material from one language to another including interpreting patient histories, physician instructions to patient, and patient questions for physician, nurse-patient dialogue and conducting pre-operative or post-operative education.

  • Facilitate communication between providers and patients on the ramifications of accepting treatment or undergoing surgery.

  • Ensure that patients understand their illness, its treatment and their legal rights.

  • Interpret sensitive information to patients or their families including diagnosis of terminal or severe illness, death of a family member during treatment or surgery or information pertinent to ethnic, cultural or religious values, morals and customs.

  • Coordinate patient services, such as scheduling follow-up medical appointments and gathering patient medical reports, x-rays, etc.

  • Collaborate with caregivers to coordinate appropriate response to requests utilizing second language skills.

  • Work an on-call rotation (nights, weekends, holidays, etc.) to support patient needs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Five years of customer service experience.

  • Written and verbal fluency in one or more languages (English and Spanish).

  • Possess a valid state driver's license and automobile insurance coverage. The caregiver must obtain an Ohio license within 30 days of employment.

  • PC and Microsoft proficiency.

  • Ability to interact with individuals and/or groups in a wide variety of highly sensitive and diplomatic situations.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree. This may substitute the experience requirement.

  • Healthcare experience.

  • Professional interpreting experience.

  • Experience maintaining confidentiality and performing complaint resolution.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Physical Requirements:

  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform work on a PC or mobile device.
