We are currently seeking a Journeyman Level Metal Fabricator / Welder to fabricate and assemble structural metal products, such as framework or shells for machinery, test chambers, tanks, stacks, and metal parts for research hardware according to job order, verbal instructions, and blueprints: Develops layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal. Responsibilities 1. Planning and laying out work according to models, blueprints, drawings, or other written or oral specifications. 2. Understanding the working properties of common metals and alloys. 3. Selecting appropriate materials, tools, and processes required to complete task. 4. Perform welding processes on mild steel, structural steel, and other metal parts using welding metals and metal alloys. 5. Weld and fabricate parts according to engineering drawings and specifications, using various weld procedures and in multiple positions. 6. Utilize hand welding and flame cutting equipment such as arc, MIG, TIG welders, gas welders, and gas torches to weld together metal components (flat, horizontal, or vertical plates and pipes). 7. Interpret sketches, prints, operation sheets, preliminary drawings, and verbal instructions. 8. Making necessary shop computations; setting up and operating various machine tools and related equipment; using various metal fabrication equipment and tooling including hand tools and precision measuring instruments. 9. Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinding equipment, and drill presses, lathes, mills. Works to very close tolerances; heat-treating metal parts and finished tools and dies to achieve required qualities; and fitting and assembling parts to prescribed tolerances and allowances. Qualifications 1. Must have a minimum of 4 years working experience at the Journeyman Level as a welder fabricator. 2. Completion of a 4-year State approved apprenticeship program with a Journeyman's certificate highly desired or have equivalent vocational school training with sufficient combined work experience and skills. 3. Working knowledge OSHA requirements relating to fabrication in a shop environment. 4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision. 5. Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow. 6. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills. 7. Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness and safety practices. EOE/Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran
