Cleveland Clinic Manager APRN PA - Dermatology in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland Clinic's Dermatology Department is hiring an APRN/PA Manager. This role carries direct patient care responsibilities as well as managerial duties. The APRN/PA Manager will engage in the direct care of patients that aligns with department and team goals. They will provide liaison functions between Advance Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants, staff physicians, administration, other departments, and external groups. Communicates and collaborates with the Directors of APRN/PA services for updates in APRN/PA guidelines and policies. Attends in-services provided by Directors of APRN/PA services as required. Clinical supervision and annual review of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Physician Assistants will be done by the supervising/collaborating physicians and the APRN/PA Manager, with input from the Institute Administrator

  • Minimum three years' experience working as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

  • Must have management/leadership experience with demonstrated competency of clinical skills and techniques.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the selection and evaluation of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Physician Assistants in the Hospital or Institute.

  • Trains all new Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Physician Assistants on clinical protocols and procedures.

  • Defines job expectations and monitors productivity.

  • Develops and implements competencies for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants (with assistance from the APRN/PA Directors).

  • Schedules and assigns Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants to maintain appropriate staffing and coverage.

  • Develops and implements process improvement initiatives and procedures for the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/Physician Assistant group.

  • Organizes and provides in-service education for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants.

  • Coordinates (through the APRN/PA Director's offices) and provides clinical education to Student Practitioners from affiliated entities.

  • Develops and implements competencies for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants in accordance with the APRN/PA council's competency guidelines as well as Hospital or Institute specific guidelines.

  • Participates in development and implementation of Institute quality improvement initiatives.

  • Works in conjunction with physician staff to recommend, evaluate and procure new technology and supplies for the Institute.

  • Organizes product evaluation activities of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants.

  • Develops and administers Institute policies and procedures.

  • Assures compliance with practice standards for the safe delivery of care.

  • Monitors and assures effective and safe implementation of clinical protocols.

  • Assures that compliance policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to.

  • Assures Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants are compliant with licensure, certification requirements and supervision agreements.

  • Reports all requirements to APRN/PA Directors as required.

  • Assures Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants are compliance with JCAHO standards including OSHA.

  • Ensures compliance with quality monitoring reports as required.

  • Represents the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants at Hospital or Institute staff meetings.

  • Interacts with external organizations and vendors, etc. representing Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Physician Assistants for their Hospital or Institute.

  • Performs the duties of a clinical Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/Physician Assistant.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • PA: Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program.

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or applicable state licensure through the State Medical Board for certificate to practice.

  • APRN & MSN required upon hire or within 5 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role.

  • Applicable state licensed through the State Medical Board for certificate to practice.

Certifications:

  • APRN: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in applicable state.

  • National certification as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing, current licensure by applicable state Board of Nursing, (including certificate to prescribe if applicable).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) may be required based upon work setting.

  • PA: Current certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA (or successor).

  • Must have Prescriptive authority or eligible to apply for licensure to prescribe from the State Medical Board within the first 6 months of hiring.

  • Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement (listed on State Medical Board website) and/or signed addendum to Physician Supervision Agreement.

  • Must be privileged by CCF's Credentialing Board.

  • If candidate has held a license to prescribe within another jurisdiction and needs to obtain a Master's degree in order to apply for CT prescribe from applicable state, the candidate will be subject for review for eligibility for hiring within our system.

Competencies (Complexity of Work):

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated competency and the ability to perform advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan development and invasive procedures as per clinical privileges.

  • Ability to interact effectively with all members of the Institute and other Cleveland Clinic employees at all levels.

  • Ability to lead and work with groups to manage the group process and to use facilitative skills.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum three years' experience working as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

  • Must have management/leadership experience with demonstrated competency of clinical skills and techniques.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Requires extensive walking, sitting and stair climbing.

  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations.

  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.

  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
