This position is accountable for using scientific approaches to analyze and solve paint & coating problems involving research, product development, customer complaints and plant issues involving PCG, PSG and CBG coatings. Using a variety of analytical instruments/methods to generate valid, high quality, defensible analytical results. Effectively communicating analytical results and conclusions. Completing assigned work and issuing reports within agreed-to-time frames. Maintaining and calibrating assigned analytical equipment. Communicate and collaborate with other group members and other teams to set priorities and understand project scope. Adhering to safety, quality (e.g., ISO), and housekeeping policies and guidelines Other Duties as assigned. FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: * Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics ("STEM") field Preferred: * BS in Chemistry or Polymer Science/Engineering KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required: * At least 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience (including microscopic, spectroscopic, chromatographic instrumental and physical analysis) in an industrial and/or academic setting. * Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills * Excellent organization and planning skills * Must have the legal right to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship now or in the future for employment visa status. Preferred: * Direct application of analytical techniques in paints/coatings and/or polymers. * A basic knowledge of paint/coatings chemistry, formulation, and production, and/or coating field failure analysis experience. TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Required: * Understanding of fundamental chemistry practices and principles * Operating a variety of laboratory equipment * Ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures, applicable laws, rules, and regulations * Prioritizing daily project tasks * Solving problems and recommending solutions * PC skills including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications Preferred: * Understands the basics of paint formulation and testing * Creative thinking TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10% Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in Q4 2024. Until then, the role will be based at 4440 Warrensville Center Rd, Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
