MetroHealth Release of Information Specialist - Health Information Mgmt; 80 Hrs; Days in CLEVELAND, Ohio

Location: METROHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER

Biweekly Hours: 80.00

Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Summary:

Responds to and processes all release of medical information requests and subpoenas in a timely manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal and regulatory requirements of the health care system. Safeguards and protects the patient’s rights to privacy by ensuing only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information and that all release of information are in compliance with the request, authorizations, MHS policy, and HIPAA privacy statues. Meets and maintains deadlines, and quality and productivity standards for role. Provides customers with the highest quality product and customer service. Adheres to disclosure standards and regulations, i.e., HIPAA privacy, at both the state and federal levels. Upholds the mission, vision, values and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required: Associates Degree in a related field or 3 years of experience in health information management, comparable physician office, clinic or hospital business office, or healthcare customer service/office setting Typing 35 wpm. Medical terminology training or experience. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology. Strong familiarity of medical record documents. Familiarity with HIPAA privacy laws and Joint Commission Record of Care standards. Proficiency with computers and commonly used software applications, including Microsoft Office, internet, electronic health record. Competent use of office equipment such as multifunctional devices, document scanners, computer workstations and telephones. Strong customer relations and communication skills. Demonstrated initiative and independent problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced office environment to meet deadlines and service requirements. Attention to detail, ability to follow directions, prioritize responsibilities, and work with minimal supervision in a team oriented atmosphere. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred: Associates degree from an AHIMA accredited health information technology program with an active RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) credential or related college degree. Experience with performing release of medical record information functions.

Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
