Position Purpose

Performs ultrasound echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, TEE procedures on a scheduled or emergent basis. Assists Radiologist/Cardiologist/Physician as requested and assumes Radiology Tech/Sonographer duties as needed. Ages of patients served range in age from newborn to geriatric.

What You Will Do

  • Assists physician(s), cardiologist(s) and/or radiologist(s) in specialized procedures.

  • Follows sterile procedure and can assist in monitoring HR/BP during these procedures if necessary.

  • Utilizes critical thinking in daily and emergent assessment of proper protocols.

  • Assesses each patient for proper prep/scanning procedure for each ordered exam.

  • Follows protocols that have been set in place for the Ultrasound Department.

  • Coordinates work with other sonographers and departments.

  • Completes all required documentation accurately and thoroughly.

  • Follows the ARDMS and/or CCI rules and regulations.

  • Observes safety precautions when handling patients, while performing examinations and while patients are in direct contact.

  • Demonstrates safety with chemicals when handling/disinfecting any necessary equipment.

  • Performs visual inspection daily of all equipment to ensure its safety/cleanliness.

  • Operates 2D, M-mode, and Doppler ultrasound unit with appropriate transducers utilized to perform and adequately ascertain the location of specified anatomical area, with demonstration on film with recordings of appropriate calculations for measurements.

  • Demonstrates basic patient care skills.

  • Performs echocardiographic testing procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered in Ultrasound Vascular and/or Registered in Cardiac Sonography or board eligible preferred.

  • Two year approved Radiological Technology program, one year approved Radiological Technology Ultrasound program or approved hospital-based program. Board certification in vascular and/or cardiac sonography within one year of hire.

  • Registered by the ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) as

  • RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) or

  • RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer)

  • OR

  • Registered by CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) as

  • RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) or

  • RVS (Registered Vascular Specialist)

  • OR

  • Registered by ARRT (American Registered Radiologic Technologist)

  • ARRT-Vascular Sonography

  • ARRT-Sonography

  • Registry eligible

  • Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.

  • Working weekend, holiday, and rotating shifts as well as on-call is required.

  • Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in a Windows environment.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
