U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Maintenance Worker in Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico
Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Maintenance Worker for the District Operations Division performing a variety of maintenance repair and operational duties within the District's flood control dams and facilities. Responsibilities Apply a variety of standardized methods, procedures, and techniques to maintain and repair equipment such as, hydraulic gates, hoists, hangers, cranes, elevators, sump pumps, water systems pumps, and stand-by generators. Weld similar metal components together to fabricate or repair equipment using gas welding, brazing, or arc welding. Construct, install, repair or modify items and structures, such as, panels, concrete forms, dry walls, framework, doors, interior and exterior trim, bulletin boards, cabinets, bookcases and counters. Repair, replace, and maintain such things as pipe, tile, union joints, faucets, and drains. Inspect dam and appurtenant structures and equipment using standard inspection checklists. Perform a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance work necessary to keep the project presentable to the visiting public. Operates a variety of vehicles such as, sedans, light duty pickup trucks and 5-20 ton trucks, tractors, forklifts, tractor trailers, and transports. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Maintenance Worker duties. I can repair mechanical equipment, buildings, and systems. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work requires heavy physical effort and the ability to perform heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over); use of both arms, both hands, and both legs; repeated bending, climbing, and reaching; continuous standing and walking; kneeling and crawling, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work also requires operation of equipment and motor vehicles, rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds, or platforms. Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Works in mud and water when required. Is subject to such hazards as working around moving machinery, working over and in water, working in cramped quarters, working on ladders, scaffolding, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, both above and below ground. Works with electrical, automotive and engineering equipment. May be exposed to excessive noise, dust, silica, asbestos, fumes, smoke, gases, solvents, grease, oil, and electrical equipment. Safety hats, safety shoes, gloves, and rain gear are furnished to employee for normal activities. Respirators, face shields, eye goggles, and other equipment are provided for herbicide application, painting, welding, and other hazardous duties. May be exposed to poisonous reptiles, insects, or plants. Routinely is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
