TheSpeech Language Pathologist (SLP)is a professional who diagnoses, treats and prevents speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders by performing patient assessments, developing individual treatment plans, liaising with patient, family and healthcare professionals while administering therapy and monitoring progress. The SLP may work in coordination with Occupational and Physical Therapists on the patients overall plan of care.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Consult with patients to learn abouttheir physical condition, deficits and goals
  • Assess and interpret patient evaluations and test results
  • Diagnose, treat and prevent speech, language and swallowing disorders
  • Create treatment and therapy plans to suit the individualized needs of a diverse population of patients
  • Perform screenings to detect voice or speech disorders
  • Educate patients and family members about speech disorders and causes, including disabilities and traumatic events
  • Consult and collaborate with other healthcare professionals
  • Document patient care history timely and accurately with great detail
  • Report progress and current status to appropriate parties, which may include family members, teachers or medical professional
  • Comply with all rules, regulations and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy

TheSpeech Language Pathologist (SLP)assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to make decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills in teaming with patients, medical staff and the public
  • Detail oriented with proven ability to multitask
  • Professional appearance and ease in developing rapport with others
  • Strong understanding of speech-related conditions, causes and treatments
  • Accurate clinical assessment skills regarding patient medical conditions
  • Ability and willingness to accurately and appropriately document patient care notes in a timely manner in accordance with billing and regulatory requirements
  • Ability and willingness to alter plans of care as necessary for best patient outcomes
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians and hospital staff
  • Computer skills including MSOffice, Outlook, Meditech
