Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an Archivist with TS/SCI clearance to support KITS and our government customer in College Park, MD.

Koniag IT Systems (KITS) is seeking an Archivist Specialist to support our client in College Park, MD. The selected candidate will serve as a Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS)-dedicated archives specialist, responsible for providing specific information from or about records in response to detailed inquiries. They will also offer professional research support, advice, and consultation to DoS FRUS historians. The role involves ascertaining facts, locating, and studying documentation related to the history of U.S. foreign relations, including U.S. bilateral and/or regional relations, transnational issues, and thematic topics such as national security policy, arms control, non-proliferation, and foreign economic policy, all for inclusion in the FRUS series.

KITS ideal candidate shall provide applied subject matter expertise to information management, governance, content, record, and archival management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and listening skills, be able to capture and present ideas articulately and customer support initiatives.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Acquire and maintain an understanding of the major Presidential Library records collections housed at the NDC, the relationships among them, and their importance to FRUS research.

• As necessary, analyze and organize portions or series of unprocessed Presidential Library records requested by FRUS historians.

• As necessary, develop finding aids or collection folder title lists for portions or series of unprocessed Presidential Library records requested by FRUS historians

• Provide copies of relevant finding aids, other records guides, and/or collection folder title lists to FRUS historians

• Explain the administrative background or interrelationships of Presidential Library records and documents to FRUS historians.

• Identify and locate paper and electronic Presidential Library records, documents, and materials responsive to research queries from FRUS historians, including specific documents.

• Work with FRUS historians to craft robust research searches in electronic document databases such as RAMS, Presidential Library databases, Outlook, etc.

• Retrieve/pull Presidential Library records requested by FRUS historians on a same-day basis

• Re-shelve Presidential Library records when no longer required by FRUS historians

• Provide information and suggestions regarding other archival or manuscript collections containing FRUS-relevant materials at NARA and/or other archival repositories

• Suggest secondary sources, such as published works, that would be useful in providing added background or perspective to the use of records and documents.

• Establish and maintain good working relations with NDC colleagues, Presidential Library archivists, the Presidential Materials Staff, and FRUS historians

• Serve as a liaison between FRUS historians and Presidential Library archivists

• Coordinate, as needed, with the Presidential Materials Staff on issues related to Presidential Library records

• Monitor FRUS historians working in the dedicated research space five days a week from 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m. [with a break for lunch, of course!]

• Prepare inventories of copies of records made by FRUS historians as required

• Double-wrap and pack copies for couriering by FRUS historians.

Clearance:

• Top Secret SCI eligible and Q Clearance

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Archival Science, Library Science, History, or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Candidates must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance, per government requirements

• Desired National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Certified Records Management Certification

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical and program requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Experience working directly with government senior staff

• Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills

• Must be fluent in MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

• Showcase good analytical and evaluative skills in tasks

• Ability to multitask

• Have good interpersonal skills

Working Environment & Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.

The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
