Gama-1 Technologies System Engineer III in College Park, Maryland

Summary  

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Engineer III to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining a stable and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environment, ensuring that systems are optimized for performance, reliability, and security. You will lead a team of less-experienced system administrators and work closely with application teams to support middleware and other system applications, all while working in a hybrid work environment . Additionally, you will leverage tools like Ansible, Puppet, and VMware ESXi to manage the infrastructure and deploy virtual environments. The ideal candidate will have a current RHCSA certification, strong troubleshooting skills, a deep understanding of Linux systems, and can work independently while mentoring and guiding junior team members.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead a team of less-experienced system administrators in resolving system issues

Essential Functions

  • Maintain and manage Red Hat Linux servers, ensuring system stability, security, and compliance

  • Perform regular patching, updates, and system upgrades for vulnerabilities and performance improvements

  • Use Ansible Tower to automate system administration tasks and manage configuration

  • Configure and maintain Red Hat Identity Management (IdM) and PKI infrastructure

  • Manage virtual environments using VMware ESXi, including deploying and managing virtual machines (VMs)

  • Troubleshoot complex system issues and provide solutions for resolution

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the design, installation, and maintenance of virtual desktop infrastructures and backup solutions

  • Tune system performance for memory, processes, and network utilization

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to Junior System Administrators, helping them develop their skills and knowledge

  • Monitor and manage IT assets and inventory

Required Qualifications 

  • 8 or more years of experience in Linux system administration, preferably with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience

  • Current RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) certification

  • Strong expertise in Ansible for automating system management

  • Experience with Red Hat Identity Management and PKI infrastructure management

  • Proficient in managing virtual environments with VMware ESXi

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of network protocols

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical people and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships among all levels of an organization

  • Other relevant professional certifications

    Work authorization/security clearance requirements

Ability to obtain a government security clearance

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations and client facilities

    The base salary range for this position is $125,236.76 to $176,538.57.

    This base salary range represents a general guideline. An individual’s base salary within that range is determined based on a variety of factors, including (without limitation) the scope, complexities, and responsibilities of the position, the government contract to which the position is assigned, geographic location, market conditions, and the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and skills.
