Description

Under the general supervision of the Land Development Review Administrator, the Planning Technician provides technical support to staff members, customers, and the public on issues related to planning, zoning, and development.

Principal Duties

  • Conduct technical reviews of applications for administrative permits. Interact with applicants, design professionals, contractors, City staff, and general public. Review and issue permits when appropriate.

  • Perform zoning and development research to assist Staff members, customers, and the public.

  • Assist in the interpretation and application of the Unified Development Ordinance.

  • Assist in the data collection, public meeting facilitation, and implementation of long-range planning projects.

  • Prepare special reports and projects for the Planning and Zoning Commission and other boards and commissions as directed.

  • Manage development projects as directed. Interact with applicants, design professionals, contractors, and City staff. Conduct site inspections and prepare reports as directed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

High school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience

Valid Texas Driver’s License

Willingness and ability to provide and participate in regular rotation of “Planner on Call” support

Proven written and oral communication abilities

Ability to comprehend and apply multiple ordinances and policies

Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all public interactions

Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, urban design, architecture, or related field

General knowledge of principles and practices of city planning as they pertain to urban development and zoning
