The Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture in the School of Education and Human Development (effective August 15, 2024, the School of Education and Human Development will change its name to the College of Education and Human Development) at Texas A&M University is seeking one full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education.

This is a 9-month academic year appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

We seek vibrant and inventive colleagues to join our dynamic faculty as we build a top early childhood education program including the new Institute for Early Childhood. The goal of this search is to find thought leaders engaged in translational research about children birth-age eight and the adults who interface with them (e.g., families, educators, physicians, clinicians) that advances the Texas A&M land grant mission by:

  1. generating and disseminating innovative early childhood research and practice that is nationally recognized,

  2. educating the best early childhood leaders and teachers both pre-service and in-service across the U.S., and

  3. informing practices and policy that transform the lives of young children and their families, educators, and health professionals

Responsibilities of the position include (a) maintaining a vibrant and funded research agenda in early childhood development and/or education focused on effective strategies to promote early learning and wellbeing, (b) teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and (c) enhancing and elevating early childhood education research and practice applied to the preparation of the next generation of teachers, researchers and academic leaders. The candidate will contribute to the Texas A&M Institute for Early Childhood Development & Education a multidisciplinary network of faculty from across units in the Texas A&M System with the mission to transform the lives of young children (prenatal to age eight), their families and the adults that work with them (e.g., educators, clinicians, health providers) by leading interdisciplinary translational research that solves complex issues in early childhood from diverse perspectives, mentoring the next generation of early childhood scholars and practitioners, and generating effective outreach/service opportunities in Texas and beyond.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

● An earned doctorate in child/human development, education, or psychology with depth of study and research in early childhood education and/or development, or a closely related field;

● A well-defined research agenda focused on early childhood development and/or education

● A record of research-based publications in top tier journals commensurate with experience;

● A record of (or strong potential for) extramural funding commensurate with experience; and

● Experience teaching at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications:

● A research agenda in early childhood development and/or education in the areas of early brain development, infant-toddler development and programming, socioemotional development and learning, early STEM especially in the areas of early mathematics, engineering/physical science, and technology, early childhood policy, trauma and trauma informed practices, teacher development, language and literacy development, and/or family partnerships/engagement, particularly for students and/or students who are vulnerable (commensurate with experience);

● Proficiency in working with early educators and providers;

● Experience in teaching graduate and/or undergraduate early childhood education principles and evidence-based practices and/or related concepts;

● Application and integration of evidence-based interventions in early childhood education responsive to student populations; and

● Experience teaching children in an early childhood setting or working with children in families in home/community settings.
