Description

The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture in the School of Education and Human Development (effective August 15, 2024, the School of Education and Human Development will change its name to the College of Education and Human Development) at Texas A&M University is seeking to hire one full-time tenure-track position in Literacy Studies at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full professor to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year.

Responsibilities of the position include (a) maintaining a research agenda in literacy education of national/international significance, (b) teaching effectively using evidence-based practices at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and (c) enhancing and elevating literacy education research and practice applied to the preparation of the next generation of teachers, researchers and academic leaders.

This is a nine-month position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

● An earned doctorate in education with depth of study and research in secondary literacy (reading and/or writing) education, or a closely related field (ABD acceptable for application, if degree will be conferred prior to start date);

● A well-defined research agenda focused on experimental and school-based intervention research in literacy (reading and/or writing) with school-aged students;

● A record of experimental research publications in top tier journals (commensurate with position);

● A record of (or strong potential for) extramural funding supporting a well-defined experimental research agenda (commensurate with position);

● Demonstrated experience in effective post-secondary teaching of evidence-based approaches to literacy acquisition, including Science of Reading (graduate and undergraduate); and

● Engagement in professional scholarship and leadership activities commensurate with position.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience in teaching graduate and undergraduate evidence-based literacy education principles and practices in Secondary education;

● Application and integration of new technologies and/or evidence-based interventions in literacy (reading and/or writing) education;

● Experimental secondary school-based research expertise in: (a) writing, writing in content areas, or reading-writing connection; (b) reading within STEM disciplines

● At least three years of experience teaching in public school settings

● Engagement in service activities within an academic department and literacy fields

● School-based outreach and/or scaling-up efforts related to evidence-based literacy practices
