Description

Under general direction of the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, the Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator will work directly with volunteers and local organizations to supplement park maintenance services and support City staff in making parks and trails clean and safe; and to identify, cultivate, solicit and execute sponsorships for the City of College Station Parks and Recreation.

Principal Duties
  1. Recruits, trains, and evaluates volunteers for positions or specialized projects;
  2. Facilitate volunteer events to include coordinating volunteer needs with park operations staff; preparing tools and supplies for the projects of each volunteer event and communicating event details, expectations, timelines and gratitude to potential volunteers;i nstruct volunteers by explaining park history, sharing safety protocols and the event goals, teach volunteers how to use tools/complete tasks.
  3. Develop and implement an Adopt a Park and Adopt a Trail program with long- and short-term goals for the program.
  4. Monitor use of equipment, establish, update, and implement policies and procedures for the volunteer program. Inventory, requisition and maintain supplies for volunteer services as needed.
  5. Foster relationships and present to local community groups, businesses and civic organizations to promote the volunteer program; recruit, retain and demonstrate appreciation for volunteers and community groups.
  6. Continuously collect and analyze statistics on volunteers, including hours of service, skills possessed, training received, availability, monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; identify opportunities for improvement; implement improvements.
  7. Establish standard operating procedures for safety, efficiency, and quality of work and ensure volunteers receive all related training.
  8. Prepare or complete various forms, reports, correspondence, schedules, purchase orders, or other documents.
  9. Conduct ongoing evaluation of parks and trails to identify volunteer needs within the park system; prioritize volunteer needs of all city parks and working with potential volunteer groups to match volunteer groups and park sites or projects.
  10. Physically works alongside volunteers and community groups to encourage correct form and safety protocols.
  11. Develop, maintain, and promote a sponsorship program for the City of College Station which includes identifying and soliciting potential sponsors, assembling and submitting sponsorship requests, establishing and maintaining personal contact and relationships with current and potential sponsors, conducting prospect research and meeting deadlines for sought event sponsorships for the purpose of generating funding for events and other activities of the City.
  12. Provide support for recreation programs, special events and tourism activities within the City of College Station.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required: Bachelors Degree in Parks and Recreation or a field related to area of assignment and three (3) years experience related to area of assignment, including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Valid Texas Drivers License

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Knowledge of operations, services, and activities as they related to park maintenance programs

Knowledge of safety standards and regulations

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, City personnel, community groups and the general public

Available for emergency response

Physical Requirements / Work Environment The incumbent works in a combination of office and field environments, requiring travel to and from worksites. Due to significant time spent working outdoors, the incumbent may be exposed to inclement weather conditions; exposure to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing may occur. Must have the ability to lift, push and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
