Kratos is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to perform functions such as design, analysis, evaluation, testing, debugging and implementation of applications programs supporting the infrastructure, business processes and operations and/or network-based (cloud) product systems. Analyzes, installs, acquires, modifies, and supports operating systems, database or utilities software. Plans, conducts and directs the analysis of business problems with automated systems solutions. Analyzes, designs, acquires and implements projects for standalone and interconnected systems. Design, automate, and deploy cloud resources supporting mission/business operations and development activities.

  • Provision, configure, administrate, automate, monitor, and support enterprise and project cloud services.

  • Design and implement scalable and robust cloud infrastructure capable of supporting real-world, operational missions

  • Through automation, enforce continuous compliance to security standards.

  • Design state-of-the-art technical solutions that are scalable, reliable, secure, and meet performance requirements.

  • Support architectural design and new cloud service implementations utilizing industry best practices.

  • Assist with the planning and migration of legacy applications to the cloud.

  • Perform operational engineering for activities which include platform upgrades, server patching, monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • Provide periodic off-hours on-call support for production and development environments.

  • Manage security logging, monitoring, and alert triage and participate in security incident response and investigation.

  • Utilize various automation, monitoring, and service management tools & techniques to troubleshoot issues and perform performance tuning

  • Support our development and engineering teams on cloud related issues

  • Adhere and comply with System Development Lifecycle and Release Management processes and procedures to include the use of infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ABILITIES:

  • Architect, design, develop and maintain AWS cloud environments

  • Linux server administration and automation

  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of AWS services, including but not limited to EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, and more.

  • Proficiency in IaC tools like AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform, and/or Ansible to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.

  • Strong understanding of AWS networking concepts, including Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), VPNs, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, Route 53, Security Groups, and Network ACLs

  • Expertise in AWS security best practices, identity and access management (IAM), encryption, security groups, and network ACLs. Knowledge of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles and policies.

  • Manage and optimize AWS costs through tools like AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Trusted Advisor, and implementing best practices for cost-effective resource utilization.

  • Deep understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, etc.

  • Work closely with other teams such as devops, secops, transport, etc

  • Must be a self-starter, able to work productively independently, as well as, work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary engineering team.

  • Technical proficiency including systems experience, strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and issue management in a multi-platform environment

  • Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the assigned duties, including computer skills.

  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by company and government requirements.

  • Communicate and interact effectively with peers, managers, senior leadership and public, including maintaining respect for others, and following company policies.

  • Have a willingness and ability to learn and utilize company technology for company required purposes, including, for example training, reviewing, and signing policies and procedures, benefits enrollment, and changes, and more.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities as it pertains to your job.

Required Experience:

  • 7+ years’ experience building, running, and troubleshooting production systems and live environments required

  • 4+ years’ experience with IaC tools (Terraform/Ansible) required

  • 7+ years’ experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services) is required preferably as AWS Infrastructure Engineer or AWS Network Engineer

  • 7+ years’ experience with Unix / Linux required

  • 7+ years experience with networking and security (e.g., TCP/IP, IPSec, NAT/Firewall rules)

  • Experience and comfortable automating cloud and development workflows or infrastructure

  • Experience with NIST SP800-171 and 800-53/RMF preferred

  • Must have experience administering Atlassian tools (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence, Bamboo)

  • DoD 8570 IAT II (Security+) or higher certification

Desired Skills and Experience

  • AWS Solutions Architect or comparable cloud certification

  • CCSP certification

Competitive salary based on experience and education Salary Range: $130,000-$160,000
