Salary Range: Generally starting at $60,000 - $70,000 per year. This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Summary

The Simulation Educator works in collaboration with Simulation Learning Center (SLC) Director, and faculty members across multiple disciplines to implement education experiences using simulation. Participates in daily operations of the simulation center and future planning as part of the simulation education team. Participate in simulation days as needed: simulation lead, simulation facilitator, content expert, and/or simulation technician. Contribute to the simulation center as a nursing content expert. Collaborate with partners to schedules, plan, design, and evaluate simulation learning experiences. Represents the SLC in various department meetings. Provide initial SLC orientation to new faculty partners and provide ongoing evaluation and coaching to established simulation facilitators. This position is non-tenured, 9-month, full-time on-premise placement. Occasional extended or evening shifts may be required.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Teaching using simulation

  • Implement, facilitate and debrief simulation-based educational (SBE) experiences.

  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to design & revise simulation learning experiences according to the standards of best simulation and nursing practice.

  • Mentor faculty in successful use of the SBE to ensure achievement of course objectives.

  • Create continuing simulation education programs and other faculty development opportunities.

  • Collaborate with Simulation Program Manager to assess educational needs of Standardized patients and assist with group training and individual coaching as needed as a nursing subject matter expert.

  • Develop and facilitate individualized student practice/remediation plans using simulation.

  • Evaluate both student and faculty performance during simulation and provide constructive feedback.

Simulation Leadership

  • Participates in management and program evaluation of the simulation learning center.

  • Participates in Quality Improvement through running reports and analyzing session data.

  • Participates in recruitment & hiring of Standardized Patients and student simulation technicians.

  • Attends college and university meetings to represent and advocate for SLC interests.

  • Leads huddle and provides daily operations oversight on assigned rotation.

  • Participates in the Simulation Committee.

  • Represent the SLC with positive work-culture, professionalism, & teamwork.

  • Provides informational tours and/or presentations of the simulation lab to interested groups from the community and within the university.

Continuing development as a simulation expert

  • Continues development of simulation and nursing education expertise through immersion in journals, conferences and professional networks.

  • Maintains certification as a simulation expert (CHSE).

  • Participates in simulation-based research and dissemination of information through publication and presentation.

Tentative Search Timeline

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Masters in Nursing (MSN)

  • 3 years of experiences as a nurse

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as Healthcare Simulation Educator

  • 2 years of experience as a nurse educator

  • Scholarship in the area of simulation (publications, presentations, innovations)

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand. Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Tasks may involve looking at a computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
