Job Title: LPN NurseJob Description

Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Promotes efficient patient flow and assists with patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general nursing care to patients.

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.

  • Observes, records, and reports patients' conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments to physicians.

  • Administers prescribed medications as directed.

  • Screens patients for appropriate information and instructs patients in the collection of specimen samples for testing.

  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls, instructing patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions.

  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.

  • Performs EKG and oximetry readings as required by the physician.

  • Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.

  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.

  • Maintains patient files, records, and other information.

  • Initiates IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.

Essential Skills

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a practical nurse.

  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.

  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.

  • Experience in oncology nursing, infusion, and radiation.

  • Proficiency in medical terminology and medical office procedures.

  • Experience with electronic health records and discharge planning.

  • Knowledge of utilization management and prior authorization processes.

  • Experience in acute care, pediatric care, and family medicine.

Work Environment

The work environment includes clinical areas such as examination rooms, infusion suites for chemotherapy, and procedure rooms for bone marrow biopsies and other treatments. Waiting areas are comfortable spaces for patients and their families, often equipped with educational materials about cancer and blood disorders. Employees may be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations. The job requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extensive periods are required, and occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are necessary.
