Job Description

Looking to apply your commercial/industrial HVAC experience where you can work at 1 location? WR Grace has an opening at its corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD.

Grace is hiring a Mechanical Maintenance Lead /HVAC Technician to work at our corporate headquarters location in Columbia, MD. You will be a member of the Facility Services Team and report to the Senior Supervisor, Facility Services. We offer flexible work hours, with a 7am to 4pm highly preferred. Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays if needed for urgent matters.

As a Senior Mechanical Maintenance & HVAC Technician, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of site utility and mechanical equipment such as:

• HVAC

• Boilers

• Domestic Hot & Cold

• Vacuum

• Chillers

• Compressed Air

• Refrigeration

• Cooling Towers

• Natural Gas

• Lab Gases

• VFD Controls

• Building Control Systems

Responsibilities

  • Supervise one or more employees.

  • Schedule work with contractors and site personnel

  • Oversee contract work on any repairs/maintenance to building HVAC systems and address deficiencies as necessary.

  • Respond to emergency Hot/Cold work orders.

  • Inspect the building’s mechanical rooms to ensure boilers, chillers, and pumps are functioning properly. This is performed twice daily, in the AM and then again in the PM, assisted by Building Management System (BMS) software program.

  • Ensure lab exhaust hoods are functioning properly and make necessary repairs when needed.

  • Regularly clean, adjust, repair HVAC systems.

  • Perform routine warranty maintenance.

  • Adhere to proper code standards.

  • Interpret policies to assigned personnel and enforce safety regulations.

  • Maintain records, files, drawings, and develop safety procedures.

  • Communicating with clients and customers.

  • Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and engineers concerning equipment operations.

  • Oversee site plumbing needs and improvements.

  • Advise on updates, upgrades, repairs and changes to all building HVAC and chemical treatment systems.

  • Ordering and maintaining parts/equipment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma or GED.

  • 8+ years prior experience in a commercial and/or industrial environment.

  • Prior supervisory experience

  • Must have received HVAC/Refrigeration license within the last 5 years or longer.

  • Stationary Engineer License 2.

  • Basic understanding of boiler, chiller, and cooling tower operations.

  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools related to the trade.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in using computer software to include ARC Facilities, Limble CMMS, SAP Ariba or related).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints.

  • Completion of an approved technical training program in HVAC, or related training.
