The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina ( USC ) invites applications and nominations for a faculty position (Associate or full Professor) as Chair of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies to begin July 1, 2024. The faculty position will be on a 9-month pay basis, converted to an 11-month pay basis as Department Chair.

Celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, Women’s and Gender Studies ( WGST ) began as an interdisciplinary program and achieved departmental status in 2022. With an unwavering commitment to social justice, WGST at USC has been at the forefront of advancing gender equity by fostering inclusivity, empowerment, and critical thinking on and beyond our campus. We offer an undergraduate major, an undergraduate minor, and a graduate certificate. As we transition to full department status, we seek a candidate who will bring vision and energy to help us build, grow, and thrive. Our next chair will have the unique opportunity to shape the department’s future.

The successful candidate will be a tenured associate or full professor with a strong record of leadership and scholarly achievement, plus a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will also engage with and further develop existing community partnerships.

Advertised Minimum Qualifications :

The position requires a PhD in Women’s and Gender Studies or a related field, plus years of academic experience consistent with academic policy and criteria for the respective rank, by the start date of employment.
