DESCRIPTION

Operates, calibrates, installs, programs, repairs, designs, and fabricates instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

Designs, develops, and documents new data acquisition systems; serves as expert in hardware and software systems; coordinates and sets up tests;

troubleshoots problems.

Schedules and prioritizes projects in order to produce optimal results; schedules work by interfacing with customers both internal and external as well as support

groups within the company.

Specifies, purchases, and maintains equipment; fabricates prototypes; designs and executes field tests.

Uses a number of general tools including but not limited to digital multimeter, soldering iron, function generator, and frequency generator.

Reads and interprets electrical wiring diagrams.

Communicates (oral and written) technical information to a diverse customer base.

Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures.

Develops and conducts training programs; provides counseling, mentoring, and coaching.

Serves as company representatives in various capacities to customers, suppliers, and outside agencies.

Interacts effectively with employees throughout the company.

Demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks as they become evident; initiates, develops,

Leads, and participates in improvement projects.

Manages own work and adjusts work priorities in order to meet the demands; participates in self and team audits and associated

Key Responsibilities:

Works with performance engineers to develop measurement techniques; manages/leads test system and test article issue resolution process; manages system teardown consensus reviews, including data analysis, test and teardown reports. Participates in and leads Failure Mode Effects Analysis; performs data analysis, documents systems tests and calibration reviews in technical reports; presents test finding; prepares problem resolution Information for Failure Incident Reporting Group meetings; participates in problem solving teams. Coordinates programs including planning, scheduling, ordering and tracking. Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures. Develops and conducts training programs. Demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks as they become evident; initiates, develops, leads and participates in improvement projects. Supports and troubleshoots engineering test operations/measurement in multiple locations.

Manages schedules and organizes tests and issues; facilitates the prioritization process for testing. Works with engineers to develop measurement techniques; designs more effective measurement methods and data acquisition processes and equipment; develops and executes measurement plans; leads the troubleshooting process; verifies proposed solutions; designs and procures fixtures for special tests; creates software needed for special applications; documents hardware test measurements and test summaries.

Provides support to resolve test issues; leads the test/measurement and issue resolution process; may lead the development and execution of customer/supplier agreements with engineers.

Performs data analysis and documents in Technical Reports; presents test findings.

Provides technical support for customers worldwide.

Understands and applies appropriate Company and department rules and guidelines to work and to systems; participates in the maintenance of quality procedures.

Product Function Test System Design - Interprets test equipment specifications from test standards or lab customer requirements; selects and integrates appropriate equipment, instrumentation and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data; assesses capability of the lab equipment against the requirements and support infrastructure.

Test Setup and Configuration - Interprets test plan to determine optimal location and orientation within a test space in accordance with local safety and environmental requirements and fabricates required system with appropriate materials.

Test Article Build - Assembles test articles according to test requirements, including all necessary installation or accommodations for instrumentation, in a manner that allows the test articles to successfully undergo product functional test.

Preventative and Predictive Maintenance - Interprets machine and tool maintenance records and data to develop and execute preventative and predictive management strategies to drive continuous improvement within the manufacturing process.

Data Quality - Identifies, understands and corrects flaws in data that supports effective information governance across operational business processes and decision making.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

High school diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification OR Position Profile Associates degree from an accredited program in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field

Experience:

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

Department of Labor Certification OR four year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelors degree in related field OR associates degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position will support production and engineering in the Dimensional Metrology Center at Cummins Fuel Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Engineers and Technicians to provide key dimensional measurements for production setup and troubleshooting, customer returns, and engineering investigations.

  • Work with various types of fuel injector/fuel pump assemblies and components.

  • Program and operate various types of measurement equipment.

  • Perform measurement work orders per our customer's requests.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve measurement hardware and software issues.

  • Maintain and calibrate measurement equipment, as needed.

Data Reporting:

  • Analyze measurement data to identify trends, deviations, and potential quality issues.

  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including measurement data, statistical analysis, and compliance documentation.

  • Communicate measurement results to engineers, quality teams, and production teams for further investigation or corrective actions.

Skills

  • Interpret part prints and GD&T callouts.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Hardware familiarity: Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), Surface Profilometer, Form Tester, Interferometer, Optical Systems, Hand Gages

  • Software familiarity: Metrolog, Zeiss Calypso, Mahr MarWin, ZYGO Mx, Keyence

Work Environment:

  • Primarily works in a laboratory environment with occasional support on the manufacturing floor.

  • 100% onsite

  • No travel required but may be available for offsite training.
