Definition
This position will report to the Fire Training Academy at 3639 Parsons Ave.
Under general direction, is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws and ordinances for the Department of Public Safety; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Investigates claims of unlawful employment discrimination within the Department of Public Safety on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetic information;
Interviews complainants, witnesses, and others to gather facts in order to investigate incidents of misconduct or noncompliance;
Provides for and/or ensures appropriate equal employment opportunity (EEO) training for all personnel in the Department of Public Safety;
Investigates formal complaints of unlawful discrimination and assists applicable personnel in filing formal complaints with the EEO Office and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission;
Communicates with and explains to all personnel in the Department of Public Safety various requirements of EEO laws and departmental rules and regulations;
Reviews EEO policies and procedures and recommends appropriate changes to the Public Safety Director;
Develops and designs training programs to assist personnel in the proper interpretation of various EEO laws and departmental rules and regulations;
Reviews statistical reports broken down by race and sex on a quarterly basis concerning personnel actions, work assignments, disciplinary actions, civil service examinations and other data.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience conducting civil, criminal, or factual investigations in matters of noncompliance to policy, rule, or law. Substitution(s): A master’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. A law degree may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
