American Chemical Society Principal Software Engineer in Columbus, Ohio

This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Job Accountabilities: Develop software: work within an Agile delivery team developing software applications, services, and systems while enhancing CAS products and solutions. Enhance and maintain an existing online information-processing system based on a mix of Linux-based scripting applications, C/C++, and BAL. Partner with product management, delivery leads, and other technical staff to explore, prioritize, create solutions, breakdown work, coach others as needed, and drive software projects to successful completion. Production operational support: as part of a larger support team, troubleshoot reported issues, analyze potential solutions, implement, and deliver fixes as part of an organized change management system. Connect across the organization to build influential working relationships, preparing your career for tomorrow. Stay abreast of the latest technology trends relevant to your area through individual and team training opportunities. Qualifications: 4-year degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent experience 3-plus years of application software development Highly confident in navigating Unix/Linux operating systems Strong experience in utilizing scripting languages such as Kshell/Bash/Perl/Python to accomplish complex tasks. C/C++ language experience is desired. Either prior experience with or willingness to learn IBM mainframe skills and BAL language. Experience working on Agile application delivery teams. Strong communication abilities: must be comfortable asking challenging questions and respectfully participating in, and sometimes leading, discussions with a diverse set of stakeholders and your own team.
