Definition

Under general supervision, is responsible for organizing and instructing recreational classes or activities at one or more recreational facilities; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

Instructs program participants orally and by demonstration in the fundamentals, rules, and techniques of a recreational specialty or several closely related specialties within one (1) of the following major activity categories:

Arts and crafts - e.g., ceramics, macramé, sculpture, string and drawing arts, and paper and leather crafts; Performing arts - e.g., drama, dance, music, mime, voice, and puppetry; Physical activities - e.g., soccer, boxing, cheerleading, gymnastics, and shuffleboard; Domestic arts - e.g., cake decorating, cooking, baking, and sewing; Nature activities - e.g., outdoor cooking, hiking, fishing, camping, and Native American crafts and lore; Table and group games - e.g., charades, card and party games, bridge, and chess; Adventure recreation - e.g., archery, team-building, canoeing, and kayaking; Environmental education - e.g., bird-watching, fossil digs, ecosystems, and native animals; Therapeutic recreation - e.g., wheel chair sports, and occupational therapies (group or individual).

Plans, organizes, and promotes classes or clinics to be instructed or conducted;

Requisitions supply, equipment, and material needs for classes and clinics to be instructed or conducted;

Supervises program participants and takes necessary steps to insure that they adhere to standards of good conduct;

Maintains records and prepares reports;

May assist in planning, organizing, coordinating, and conducting competitive activities and special events; may assist in officiating and/or judging various competitive activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of coursework, training, or experience in a recreational specialty that would provide the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below.
