Suture Specialist II Float Pool (EMT-B or EMT-P) Requisition ID 2024-52850 Category Nursing Support Overview 0.4 FTE, 16 hrs/week, 8-hr shift varies between the hours of 11a-3a Base pay $21.50/hr plus applicable shift differentials. Benefits eligible. Position requires a signed contract acknowledging 12-month paid training program and commitment to remain in this position for additional 18 months after training program complete. Under the direction of the Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care Practitioners, assists in the evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care of patients with minor and major cutaneous trauma, as well as orthopedic injuries. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse and Practitioners assist with the care of emergency services patients. Why Nationwide Children's Hospital? Responsibilities Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of the patients and families Performs duties within the framework of the policies and procedures as established by Nationwide Children's Hospital and the Emergency Services Departments In collaboration with the Practitioner, evaluates individual patient care needs related to the cutaneous wound (s) in relation to depth/degree of injury, and orthopedic injuries in relation to degree of injury, the need for specialty services/consultation/referral and facilitates referral process Performs procedures under the direction of the Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Practitioner and in accordance with a written practitioner order. Initiates, reinforces, and documents individualized home going instructions including follow-up, related to wound care, cast splint care, and other orthopedic appliances as appropriate Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures. Engages in the workplace community by functioning as a team member to support patient care within scope of training and competency, by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff. Assists practitioners with educational opportunities of residents, medical house staff, and medical students in suturing techniques and wound care in the emergency care setting.
