TriMas Corporation CNC Machine Operator in Commerce, California

Summary/Objective

Completely and independently set-up and operate computerized numerically controlled machine tools to perform a series of machine operations on blind fastener components to close and exacting tolerances and finish per designated specifications. Troubleshoots and resolves problems related to C N C machined parts.

Essential Functions

  • Under general direction with periodic supervision or review performs the following:

  • Sets up C N C machines making required adjustments to tooling, collets, etc. Running machines with chucker automatic load systems. Troubleshoots and resolves various problems related to the set-up and operation of tooling, work holding etc. of an auto loading C N C machine tool.

  • Read and interpret drawings, programs, and other documentation to visualize machining required and sequence of operations.

Makes input to C N C consistent with set up procedure. Fills out Setup Card for preset or setup of tools to be used in operation of CN C machine. Performs dry run to verify setup prior to production run. Recognizes and reports errors n programming and operations. Collaborates with appropriate personnel in correcting errors.

Provides necessary counts, processes documentation correctly, and maintains daily production logs or production worksheets.

  • Utilizes SPC techniques and methods to ensure workflow efficiency.

  • Maintains SYMIX database accuracy by recording work progress in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the production operations.

  • Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications. Assist other employees as required.

    Equipment/Process Responsibilities - Performs duties where significant property, tools, equipment or machines may be damaged, or man-hours lost, through improper daily maintenance and attention to processing. Inputs set-ups and maintains CNC machines for the jobs performed. Performs Total Productive Maintenance as required.

    Material or Product Responsibilities - Performs duties that require close attention to work and supporting documentations specifications and other requirements. Responsible for accuracy of parts formed. Visually and / or with measuring instruments, checks work performed for proper results.

    Responsibility for Work of Others - After setup, continues responsibility for job order accuracy and productivity during production run. Accuracy of communication is mandatory to the successful production and qualification of workpieces. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding quality of work received or time flow of work in progress as it affects production schedules. Must be able to train employees of equal of lower classification in C N C machine set-up and operation as well as on methods and procedures used by the Company in the production workflow and tracking. Communicates primarily with CNC employees including programmer and supervisor.

    Safety Responsibilities - Good housekeeping, knowledge of good machine safety is necessary as well as adherence to and enforcement of Company Safety Rules.

    Initiative and Ingenuity - Requires initiative in solving problems associated with the programming, setĀ­up and operation of CNC machines and ingenuity in adapting tooling and shop aids to complete operations. Makes suggestions for improving the efficiency of work flow or equipment operation. Troubleshoots and resolves CNC related problems. Takes on or reports for additional work as w\current tasks are completed. Performs other work-related tasks, as deemed necessary by Company needs.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Surroundings - Work is in a machine shop environment where noise, temperature fluctuations, the repetitive nature of the job, etc. are less desirable than a typical office environment.

Unavoidable Hazards- Possible hazards related to cuts, bruises, finger and hand injuries, and muscle strains. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, metalworking fluids, and airborne particles. Appropriate protective wear regarding eye, ear and clothing are required.

EFFORT

Physical- Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires strength to install and adjust tooling and equipment to set-up specifications. Hand and finger manipulation required for machine set-up and operations as well as using precision measuring instruments. Most job assignments require continuous standing and / or walking for extended periods.

Mental- Work at times is highly repetitive and monotonous. Set-up work may require use of machine shop theory, improvisation and ingenuity. Reasoning ability required to interpret drawings and documentation of a technical nature. Required to organize workflow for best efficiency.

Visual- Close attention to detail with moderate eye concentration over long periods of time. Able to read various precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, comparator, gauges, etc. Must be able to visually check workpieces for quality.

Pay Range: $28.50 - $42.34 Depending on experience.
