The Abattoir Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, and packaging animal blood and/or tissues sourced from abattoirs. This role involves meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and the ability to work at both our laboratory and off-site abattoir/vendor locations as necessary to meet production needs.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Prepare abattoir blood and tissue products according to established batch records and work orders.
  • Ability to research and investigate animal anatomy via reference manuals, professional references and/or the internet to determine course of action as it relates to specific harvests.
  • Maintain lot number, batch and equipment logbooks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform on-line inspection of components/product and immediately notify supervisor of any problems.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of inventory records.
  • Order inventory or supplies as needed.
  • Ensure that all operations are in compliance with existing procedures, manufacturing work instructions and GMP's.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
  • Observe safety regulations and practices on site and off site.
  • Use good communication and interpersonal skills to maintain excellent in-house customer relations with all functions.
  • Assist in the cross training of manufacturing technician(s).
  • Assist in other manufacturing operations as required.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Must have had license for 3+ years.
  • 1-2 years of previous manufacturing/production experience.
  • Good oral and written communications skills (English) and mathematical skills required.
  • Windows based computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with cGMP quality systems and manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to use various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use light and heavy material handling equipment and lift up to 75lbs.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for simple maintenance of equipment desirable.
  • Ability to give directions, train others and communicate effectively.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.  College degree a plus.
