THIS POSITION IS NOT UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI POSITION -COMPANY IS THE RATHSKELLER INC.

Pay Range: $15-$20 per hour commensurate with experience.

Schedule: 6:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday – Friday. Some weekend and evening work is required.

The Rathskeller at the Wellness Center is a café located at the Patti and Herbert Wellness Center inside the University of Miami Campus. The Rathskeller at the Wellness Center concept is to serve fresh fruit smoothies, coffee, sandwiches and salads, and concessions. As the manager of the Rathskeller café, you will oversee a handful of students’ day to day, along with providing a safe work environment that fosters training of the student employees. This position reports directly to the Director, Rathskeller and the Chef Manager of the Rathskeller.

  • Supervises and evaluates food cafe workers and helps develop work schedules.

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers who prepare, cook, serve food, clean premises, operate POS systems and wash dishware.

  • Participate in preparing and cooking meals.

  • Trains staff as it relates to food preparation procedures and safety regulations.

  • Ensures accuracy of deliveries of food and supplies by checking vendor invoices and prices as products are delivered.

  • Properly organizes storerooms and storage areas.

  • Orders weekly food and supplies.

  • Ensures proper accountability of inventory (food and paper goods).

  • Responsible for profitability of cafeteria by managing food cost and labor.      

  • Understands and follows all guidelines on safety, food production, food specification, and ordering.

  • Manages the preparation of meals in accordance with federal, state, and local standards.

  • Records daily production of food and inventories of all food supplies and equipment.

  • Follow approved recipes to be in compliance with company, state, and federal regulations.

  • Manages the cash register which includes counting and recording all daily transactions.

  • Completes all assigned daily records and documentation, including cash deposit slips, cash reports, edits check worksheets, and other paperwork.

  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Rathskeller, or the Chef/Manager.

Preferred work experience

  • 2-4 years working as a café manager.

  • 1-3 years working in a commercial kitchen.

  • Serve safe certified.

  • Food Handlers Certificate.
