Guthrie Central Supply Technician - Sterile Processing - Full Time in Corning, New York

This is a rotating shift with the latest shift being 1pm-9pm.

Position Summary:

Is responsible for performing decontamination, high level disinfection and sterilization of medical/surgical and gastroenterology instruments/equipment. Prioritization and coordination of work for OR, clean and leak test endoscopes, assist with the assembly of case carts for OR, maintenance of event related sterility and monitoring of instrument repair.

Experience:

Has successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; and holds and maintains one of the following credentials administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization: certified registered central service technician credential; certified sterile processing and distribution technician credential; or a substantially equivalent credential. Provides evidence that the person was employed or otherwise contracted for the services as a central service technician in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015; or a central service technician who does not meet the requirements shall have 18 months from the date of hire to obtain the certified registered central service technician credential or the certified sterile processing and distribution technician credential.

Essential Functions:

Completes assignment as per unit policy. Demonstrates proper knowledge of instruments and instrument sets. Participates and actively supports CQI activities. Completes annual education update. Assists in orientation of new personnel to the department, as well as developing skills of other staff members when requested or appropriate, Endo Techs, Nurses or Students. Demonstrates unit specific competencies and in cross‐trained areas. OR / Endo. Demonstrates good judgement and planning when responding to requests or questions, with an appreciation of cost and quality. Responds readily to staffing needs, schedule/assignment changes CP, Endo and OR. Refers concerns to the appropriate person in order to pursue problem resolution through proper chain of command. Follows Standards of Practice. Respects at all times the confidentiality of patients. Readily assists, supervises, delegates or consults with other staff members when requested or appropriate. Requests assistance from others as needed. Demonstrates ability and judgement to coordinate simultaneous work requirements. Completes all scheduled assignments without sacrificing quality of work performed. Demonstrates flexibility to adjust personal schedule to the fluctuating workload, demands of the department and availability to specific units where cross‐training has been completed. Completes all assigned duties during the shift and utilizes additional time to assist others in the best interests of the department. Uses time between assignments to order and stock supplies, and maintain work area in ready condition at all times. Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities and deal with them appropriately. Reports to and discusses with the departmental manager any suggestions or recommendation for improvements in department policies, procedures and operations. Demonstrates willingness to learn new procedures and accept new responsibilities. Willingness to cross‐train to specific jobs as appropriate. Schedules benefit time appropriately/acceptable attendance. Follows Standard Precautions and utilizes disease specific precaution as per CDC guidelines. Provides timely notification for absence or tardiness (4 hours for 3‐11; 1 hour for 7‐3). Arrives on time at start of scheduled shift and returns promptly after breaks and lunch periods. Observes dress code; wears identification badge while on duty as appropriate, and maintains a professional appearance at all times. Displays positive attitude/working relationship toward all internal and external customers. Maintenance of event related sterility. Assists in the pulling of cases as needed. Strictly adheres to Central Processing policies & procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of decontamination of all surgical instruments and endoscopes. Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment used in sterilization; i.e. sterilizers and steris processor, sonic washer, pasteurizer, Sterrad. Demonstrates understanding of Bowie Dick Test and what steps to take if it is positive for CP or OR. Demonstrates how to maintain Sterility and Implant Log for all sterilizers, cidex and Steris processors in CPD, OR, and Endoscopy, and keeps documentation current. Demonstrates how to re‐call equipment based on sterility monitoring if needed.

Pay Range $15.91 to $23.81/hr
