Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$33.090 - $42.697 - $52.303

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

This position is responsible for managing the development, planning and implementation of hospital special events to include collaboration with the region. This position is also responsible for chairing and managing the Rewards and Recognition Committee (R.R.C.) in the development and implementation of frequent hospital-wide and departmental activities and events to enhance work environment and reward and recognize employees. This position includes event planning, cross-departmental collaboration, décor, and catering coordination.

This position supports community-based events and will assist in the development and implementation of integrated marketing. This position will work with stakeholders across the region to support regional experience events and related initiatives. Works with a high level of independence, under general supervision, on a wide variety of special projects.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 Years experience in community relations, including a background in event planning, public speaking, working with community organizations/agencies, and relating to diverse cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, business, liberal arts or related field.

  • Health care experience.

  • Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) - Events Industry Council -PREFERRED

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and Manage Hospital EventsIdentifies need for plans; promotes and implements special events and programs to support the hospital and liaises with and works across the region to coordinate events and initiatives that support the hospital.Plans and implements special events for various target audiences including employee recognition events, volunteer recognition events, doctor recognition, senior events, tours, and other hospital and/or regional events.Handles all aspects of event management for events of small and complex scopes, from developing and adhering to budget to conducting site visits, developing event promotions, arranging speakers, developing speaking points, and completing post-event analysis.Work with system marketing to promote event as needed.

  • Reward and RecognitionChairs and manages the Rewards and Recognition Committee.Develops and implements frequent hospital-wide and departmental activities and events such as: WOW program, hospital week, holiday events, etc. to enhance the work environment and reward and recognize employees.Coordinates Employee of the Month, Leader of the Quarter and Employee of the Year nominations, announcements, awards, and photos.Creates multimedia in support of employee reward and recognition, e.g. videos, audio recordings, photographs, posters, cards, décor, etc.Represents and is an active participant on diverse hospital committees.Assists with writing content for hospital-wide announcements and newsletter.

  • Marketing Management and SupportDemonstrates attention to detail with relevant data management.Manages and maintains data bases to track communication.Assists in the identification of a need for and development of internal and external communication tools such as flyers, rack cards, brochures, banners, poster boards, other signage, stickers, and web content. Works with staff and physicians to develop these materials as needed. Assists departments with their needs for marketing materials.Writes content for hospital newsletter and publications as needed.Shoots photography and video for campaigns, events, VIP tours and professional headshots, as well as public relations as needed.Independently completes graphic design and multimedia editing using design/editing computer programs.Collaborates with system Marketing team in implementing projects as required.

  • Customer ServiceDemonstrates poise, confidence and willingness to assist callers, visitors, department members and Sharp HealthCare clients.Lives by the Sharp HealthCare Behavior Standards and 5 Must Haves.Maintains a friendly demeanor on the phone and in person to all customers.Contributes as a responsible member of the team.Maintains professional relationships with all constituents.Assists department members in projects as needed including system-wide fundraising initiatives.Communicates appropriately to supervisor, co-workers, physicians and staff.Represents the department in a positive manner to internal and external customers.

  • Community SupportSupport the planning of community seminars: rehearsing with speakers, moderating, preparing, and generating surveys and calling participants to remind them to attend.Supports the American Heart Association’s Annual Heart & Stroke Walk fundraiser including reaching and exceeding goals and recruiting team captains.Supports the Manager of Community Relations with the San Diego Blood Bank’s Blood Drives at the hospital via logistics, marketing, and reporting.Support San Diego Food Bank’s Annual Holiday Food Drive at the hospital.Supports the Manager of Community Relations with all aspects of planning, coordination, promotion and participation in key community events of all scopes, such as holiday parades or community clinics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer).

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent grammar, writing ability and vocabulary.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage projects within a budget.

  • Attention to detail; high level of accuracy; ability to maintain confidentiality and function effectively under high volumes of work and deadlines.
